Brilliantly scripted, excellent game!, 17 Mar 2004
Being a Buffy fanatic, it's very easy to nitpick at the way a game based on the popular series is put together. I must say though that i was seriously impressed at this one!You join Buffy in the Magic Box at the game's outset, a familiar location to those who watch the series. From here, you take control of various Buffy characters including Willow, Xander, Spike and the rogue Slayer Faith, in order to stop the First Evil from wreaking unholy havoc. The game's storyline is well put together, having being co-written by Christopher Golden (the author of several successful Buffy spin off novels), and purists will be happy to know that cast voiceovers have been provided by Amber Benson, Nicholas Brendon, James Marsters, Eliza Dushku and Tony Head. Even the fact that Sarah Michelle Gellar did not lend her voice to the game can be overlooked given that her stand-in is indistinguishable from the Slayer herself! Magically transported to the First Evil's own dimension care of Giles' power hungry former ally Ethan Rayne, who has turned his attention to worshipping chaos, you proceed through several familiar locations in order to gain access to the First's lair. These include Sunnydale High School, The Mall, Sunnydale Hospital and even the Zoo, with an instantly recognisable boss enemy to fight at each point. Various weapons are at your disposal during the game - the all too familiar stake is a must, and well as shovels, axes, flamethrowers, holy water soakers and throwable hell fire! The cast voiceovers are very amusing and will have you laughing out loud while you slay the undead. Which has to be said, is very satisfying! In short, even if your not a fan of the series, the game itself is highly recommendable. A must for Slayer wannabes, and for those who just like to kill things. A lot. 5 stars.
