Product Description

GamesMaster Magazine
"We mock Madden's annual pocket-picking, but the games keep getting better, and none by a greater leap than this. 89%."

Product Description
The American Football sim, Madden NFL Football is now in its fourteenth year and there have been some new features added to the latest instalment, Madden NFL Football 2004. The revolutionary Playmaker Control lets gamers adjust on the fly just as NFL players do. Use the right stick to quickly change plays, routes or defensive coverage. After the snap, use the right stick to call out blocks and direct receivers and make quick adjustments on defense.

Madden NFL Football 2004 also adds Deep Owner Mode, where you can take over the full bottom line responsibilities of the owner in addition to the GM, coach and player duties in Franchise Mode. Features include relocating your team and building a new stadium and setting all prices including food, merchandise and parking. With the addition of the assistant coach licence, gamers can even hire their own coaching staffs.

As well as these new features the game boasts improved graphics and sound, a stadium builder, online play (for the PS2) and playbooks that are packed with information directly from NFL Coaches via the NFLCA license. All of which goes to make it one of the most realistic Gridiron sims out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 15 Sep 2003
By A Customer
This is Excellent - by far and away the best of the Madden series. Not only are the graphics improved (as ever) but the game play is much better and the opponents AI is sharper - meaning that you can't just run the same play time after time - some thought has to be put into the play calling.

Even more importantly the defensive AI is better and the biggest gripe from last year - the lack of pass rush from for D line has been sorted out - fortunatley for the health of my controllers the D backs in particular do what they are supposed to !

Franchise mode is great, building your team is harder and more thought intensive, the other modes are more of the same - the new owner thing is a waste of time/memory but some people will enjoy it.

Overall after becoming disollusioned with the Madden franchise due to it going more and more down the 'arcade' route - score 50 points a game and to hell with players who want to put together a decent defence, it has rebounded with a really good game that requires a lot of thought to succed - especially on the higher skill levels

5.0 out of 5 stars Best American Football Experience Ever!", 21 Mar 2004
By MisterDerp (Northampton, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Forget your Sega and Acclaim American footy games, the true king of the genre is back with a vengeance. Where do I start with trying to describe what the game has in it? New Franchise mode, make your own team, create your own players, uniforms, even be the owner, charge various amounts to get in, and so much more. I forget everything that is in it, but the main things are the presentation (which is amazingly real) and the great graphics. This game has everything. Truly a work of genius by EA Sports, and I only wish that the time that went into this game to make it as easy to play went into FIFA 2004 aswell. And I am not even a Gridiron fan of any kind, but this game rocks. Thats the best feature in the game, because if you dont know the rules then switch on new Easy play and 'ask madden' for help! Simple as that. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best Console Version Yet, 9 Oct 2003
By JOHN UNDERWOOD (Caerphilly, Caerphilly Wales) - See all my reviews
As a long time fan and player of the John Madden series, I was initially very pleased with the presentation and game play of 2004 and although it bares many resemblences to 03, it is still a quality game. My main gripe with the console version of Madden is that the AI of the defence is very poor allowing far too many Ooooohh Yeeeaaahh!! plays to happen. Even with the AI turned up full, the awareness of the defence is still poor when compared with the PC version. For the novice or arcade gamer this is an excellent game , however very frustrating for serious fans.
