5.0 out of 5 stars An inspired and mature debut!, 11 Feb 2004
By Tony Chaucer (La Paz, Bolivia) - See all my reviews
Have been into James for quite a while, but must say even I was suprised by the sheer breadth of material gracing this album! James is on top form throughout, but in particular on tracks such as 'Sitting Pretty' (trk3) and 'Won't Be a Fool' (trk 5); both masterpieces of the smooth genre. The production is smooth and crisp, technically challenging, but light and airy which enables the sax to have it's own space. The cameo's are also excellent, vox on track 2 are flawless, and the keyboard solo's on both track 8 and track 11 quite superb, George Duke would be proud! Great album! ps I'm sure I heard someone shout 'You've dropped me brown ale!'in the background at the end of the last track. Strange!

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY SMOOTH JAZZ, 11 Jul 2003
This is quality, modern smooth jazz - James and his band are on top of it, but don't seem to need to shout about it. Good solid groove, some effortlessly breathtaking solos.

A totally class act, with depth and style - definitely worth more than one listen - and more than one album ... ??

5.0 out of 5 stars astonishing!, 6 Aug 2004
By robert liddell (leigh on sea, essex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This album is simply quite astonishing . For my meagre penny ,it places the UK as the leaders of the smooth jazz genre. I am not sure who this Vargas chap & his cohorts ( Ollie ? ) are but they should be lorded as bastions of true soulfull jazz.
The stunning ''Galveston Bay''&'' Won't be a fool '' raise there heads above an already lofty bar of quality jazz. The yanks ain't got nothin' on these boys !. I not only recommend this album on the grounds of incredible sax virtuosity, but as a red blooded male it contaians a knicker lubricant that is ,frankly priceless. Try it . You'll be impressed.
