To have a stereo DAB radio with ten presets and a remote control unit (very handy if you are in bed and you want to change stations) for this price is excellent value for money. The sound quality from the DAB radio is pretty good, but I've never really used the FM radio option, so cannot comment on this. It should be noted that without the remote-control unit, the ten 'DAB' preset stations cannot be instantly accessed and the 'preset' stations have to be obtained by scrolling-through the entire list and manually selecting.

I live in a medium-strength DAB area, but was pleasantly surprised that I could receive all of the national stations with the radio positioned almost anywhere in the home without the need for an external aerial.

The unit comes with a telescopic DAB aerial, separate telescopic FM aerial and an 'F'-type socket for connecting-up an external DAB aerial if required. It's also handy to have the option of using batteries or mains for a mixture of outside use with kitchen/bedroom use.

The CD-player (also controlled by the remote control) is adequate, but nothing special, but I view this feature as a real bonus bearing in mind the selling price of the unit.

The negative points are that the GPS280 is quite wide (449 mm), so finding a place for it to sit in the bedroom or kitchen can be a little challenging. Also, the case looks a little cheap-and-nasty. But the biggest down-side for myself is that the remote function of my own unit became very erratic after the first 18 months or so (I originally thought that this was a handset problem such as old batteries, but after buying a replacement remote, I discovered that the problem is to do with the 'receiving-end' in the main unit itself).

Overall a good unit, and I propose to buy a second one, despite my problems with the remote functions.

I bought my Goodmans GPS280 two years ago for £99.99 and I still think it was good value for money.

A number of people have commented on the sound but I think it is fine as long as the base button is pressed. It doesn't please my 23 year old son, as it doesn't have enough base for him, but then I don't think it was designed to play the very bassy music that his generation prefer.

It is essential to press the Base button to give the sound a bit more body; maybe the others commenting negatively didn't find the button, as it looks exactly the same as all the other buttons.

My wife and I think it is excellent for general use; I use it mainly for listening to speech stations and my wife listens to her collection of CDs and middle of the road music stations when doing the ironing. It also has the benefit of being able to be used portably when the need arises although I haven't checked out how long the batteries last for.

I also use it with wireless headphones plugged in and can wander around the house and out into the garden maintaining perfect reception with just the right amount of base.

Recommended, especially as it also has AM and FM for the stations I can't pick up on DAB.

I purchased this for the kitchen as I wanted to listen to Radio 5 & Talk Sport in stereo and have the option of the greater choice of stations. (Radio 6, Storm, Planet Rock etc). We also wanted a CD player.

The sound is perfectly listenable and does improve at low levels if you use the bass boost DBBS. I am struggling to understand the previous reviewers saying the sound quality is poor. Whilst this is not audiophile equipment, what do you expect for the price as you would struggle to just buy the radio on its own for £80. What Hi Fi gave it a 4 star out of 5 at a quoted price £100, stating it "sounds reasonable". It should not be considered as a main hi-fi but is excellent for a kids bedroom, office or kitchen etc.

If you want a simple basic DAB radio with a CD player with reasonable sound then go for it. Don't mistake it for high quality audio as you have to pay a least 4 or 5 times the price for a half decent micro system with DAB.
