1.0 out of 5 stars The Kid Stays in the Picture, 29 Nov 2005
Less a documentary about A-list Hollywood producer Robert Evans than an illustrated memoir. Evans narrates his own story while Burstein & Morgen and editor Jun Diaz compose a montage of photos and film clips, throwing in the occasional archive interview clip. Unsurprisingly the film is at its most interesting when focused on Hollywood's 1970s golden age (Evans oversaw Rosemary's Baby and The Godfather, and produced Chinatown and Marathon Man), though that might just be a matter of personal taste. On the whole though, it's disappointingly dull.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fast paced almost MTV style documentary of v high quality , 21 Jan 2007

I really enjoyed this terrific fast paced documentary covering the career of Robert Evans. Evans does the narration himself and the documentary is all the better for this.

After a brief introduction into his acting career it gets straight into the action with his appointment as head of paramount and then rapidly covers

1. The making of rosemary's baby - and the problems with Mia Farrow/Sinatra
2. Love Story and his marriage to Ali McGraw
3. The making of the Godfather - specifically dealing with his battles with Coppola and the studio.
4. His departure from paramount & Chinatown
5. The Cotton Club
6. His near ruin and ultimate recovery

But it's the very fast pace and the almost MTV feel to the action that sets this documentary apart in my view.

The narration is brilliantly interspersed with excellent graphics/music/interview snippets/photo stills making this an informative and always interesting documentary.

Terrific stuff

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality film, 10 Nov 2005
This is a superb story of Bob Evans's life that sucks you right in from the start. The way its delivered Evan's own unique voice supplying the narrative is superb also the use of old clips etc. really ties in well with the narration. Some people know how to life life on the edge this guy is one of them. Definately worth buying as its on e of those DVD's that gets better each time you watch it.
