This is a great collection of superb singles, featuring all the classic Haircut's singles and some under-rated material from solo Nick. However, I've docked a star for the lazy use of album versions of "Favourite Shirts" and "Love Plus One", the former is slightly snappier in earlier single version, and the latters slightly longer pro-longed fade-out I prefer to the album version, and they are both readily availble on the essential "Pelican West plus" cd. It would benefitted from the inclusion of the two post-Nick Haircut's singles, the space is there and it's all part of the story.
Some of the production on the later mid-eighties singles leaves a lot to be desired, and despite the good songs it does become apparant mid-way through how much Nick missed the superb musicianship of the band.
Points gained for containing the original single mix of the superb "Nobody's Fool"..
Go on, it's cheap enough, buy it. You'll be impressed.

You know, I hate these cheapo collections that swamp the market place, but I guess it's a cheap introduction to the genius of Sir Nick, so I shouldn't be too hard. There's a lot more to the man than the toothy teen from Haircut, but unfortunately, this set doesn't give it that impression.

Yes, this is a good starting point, but try and investigate North of A Miracle, Tangled and the superb Apple Bed too.
