Product Description

Product Description

Mickey Rourke and Don Johnson star as a biker and a rodeo cowboy who meet up in the near-future. Hearing that their favourite haunt 'The Rock'n'Roll Bar and Grill' is about to close down, they devise a plan to steal $2.5 million from an armoured car to save the old place.

From Amazon.co.uk

Sheathing itself in bad taste, this film flaunts its tackiness, its machismo, and its very stupidity, which of course makes for a lot of dopey fun. Harley Davidson (Mickey Rourke) returns to his roots, the LA of 1996 (the film was set in the near future, as it was made in 1991). Burbank has become an airport, a new drug called Crystal Dream is all the rage and Harley's favourite bar is being torn down. To save it, he and the Marlboro Man (Don Johnson, at his most engaging) concoct an armed robbery that goes awry. Instead of cash, they end up with a shipment of Crystal Dream. Hunted by a drug dealer's goons, the two bark, fight, drink and squint at each other as they try to get themselves out of their mess. This is Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid for the monster-truck crowd, with plenty of breasts, choppers, broken pool cues and empty bottles. It's impossible to blame this film for being so emphatically trashy; its creators would consider that a compliment, anyway. --Keith Simanton, Amazon.com --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I am no film critic but i enjoy my films and i have waited for 12 years for this to come out on dvd.
Don't get me wrong this is not a masterpiece of cinematography but on many a night when there has been nothing on tele to watch i have cracked open a tinny and put this film on.
This will probably not appeal to a majority of people but if you give it a go you may be pleasantly surprised,it has quite a good cast (don johnson aside!!)including the gorgeous tia carrera and the opening scenes are played to bon jovi's Wanted dead or alive!!
The storyline is easy going and you dont need to be a rocket scientist to follow it so it can even be watched with girlfriends without being interrupted every 5 minutes with annoying plot questions(so they can get the beers in and not miss much of the plot-quality!!)!!There is plenty of action and it is a good buddy buddy, friends forever, fight in what you believe in film.
All in all get the fridge full of beers, order in pizza and invite your mates round for a night in watching this quality feel good movie.

Set in the then-future of 1996, drifter Harley Davidson (played by Mickey Rourke) is in a motel in Texas when he hears about a dangerous new street drug named "Crystal Dream" on the radio. The significance of this street drug does not arise again until later in the film. Harley then decides to visit his erstwhile companion, a cowboy nicknamed The Marlboro Man (played by Don Johnson) and they plan a bank robbery to help save their friend's bar from being torn down and replaced with a skyscraper. However, after they rob a bank's armoured car, they discover the cargo they stole is in fact the designer drug "Crystal Dream", not money. The bank's president (who is involved in the shipment of the drugs) demands the return of the drugs. And a series of increasingly deadly encounters ensue as heavily armed hitmen (led by Daniel Baldwin) hunt for Harley and Marlboro. The characters in the film are named after famous American brands such as: Harley Davidson, Marlboro (cigarette), Virginia Slim (cigarette) - as well as Jack Daniel's & Old Grand-Dad, both whiskies. The character Jimmy was named after Jimi Hendrix, who he looks like.

This is a typical American action/road movie which features it's fair-share of sleazy bars, hoodlums, action heroes, corrupt officials and hired hitmen. Having said that this movie does deliver it's dosage of action, set against the backdrop of some stunning locations such as, a rooftop shoot-out on top of a Las Vegas Hotel - as well as a final duel (reminiscent of "High Noon") which takes place in an airplane graveyard. The opening scene at the beginning of the movie being my favourite scene: expansive desert shots of Mickey Rourke riding a motorcycle.

I agree with everything positive said about this film, I introduced it to my 10 year old son and he loved it!!
A classic guy movie that if you love action, road movies with good one liners then you wont be disappointed.
I watch this regularly and its in my top ten which includes Shawshank redemption and Stand by Me, films which didnt do well but aquire a loyal "cult" ish following.

This movie aint Shawshank which is gritty realism, or Stand By Me which is superbly crafted, this is a chill out, popcorn movie and an easy watch with an easy plot line.

Not Micky Rourkes best movie a Prayer for the Dying or the recent The Wrestler get that vote, but he is still soooo cool especially in the opening scene in the gas station. (see it on you tube)!

Just buy it!

Do you like guns? How about half naked women? Rediculous action scenes? Bulletproof badguys? Basiclly, are you a guy? If so, your gonna love this movie. I hate Mickey Rourke, but he's damn good in this. And Don Johnson is funny... Buy it, rent it - just watch it, but not with any women or they'll spoil it.

This movie is in my top 3 movies of all time. Loose remake of 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' sees Mickey Rouke and Don Johnson take on the roles of HD and MM.

The plot revolves around trying to save a friends bar by robbing a bank which turns out to be run by a ruthless criminal played by Tom Sizemore. This begins a cat and mouse chase as Sizemore's henchmen are determined to get their money back and kill anyone who gets in the way. Watch out for the helicopter scene (redone in The Matrix).

Mickey Rouke has stated that this film is not one of his favourites. This is a shame as he does an excellent job as he always does in all of his roles.

The action is great and frequent while the dialogue is funny. The movie oozes style and great one liners and also has sentimental moments which do not feel forced or out of place.

Watch out for a great soundtrack and beautiful bikes!!

Highly recommeded
