Digital Innovations Skipdoctor CD & DVD Repair Device

Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The SkipDoctor is the proven tool to repair the primary disc-related causes of screen freezing, booting problems, skipping and distortion in music, movie, game and data discs. Its patented radial polishing process does what wiping can't, which means you can often save your discs instead of ditching them. The process is fast, easy and it works...which is why over 3 million have been sold worldwide!

Your "SkipDoctor" product, the world's first consumer optical disc scratch repair device, is the result of nearly five years of research and development using the most sophisticated scientific and engineering tools available. Its radial resurfacing action removes or reduces the severity of harmful abrasions, scratches, and other surface imperfections from the play (shiny) sides of discs. This patented process automatically provides the perfect control so that the right amount of material is removed from the disc and only a light radial pattern remains. This pattern is ignored by all of the devices (e.g. CD players, DVD players, CD drives, etc) that read your discs. The result is that your "SkipDoctor" scratch repair device repairs the primary causes of skipping and distortion and restores optimum performance to discs.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars, 25 Jun 2003
I am constantly scratching my CDs. It was a major headache, until I found the Skipdoctor. It was a dream come true for me. I had well over €200 worth of scratched CDs at home. When I got the Skipdoctor I immediately read the manual. It explained the hot to use the device very well.

I then put in the 1st CD, sprayed it with the included water (used to extend the life of the abrasion wheel) and started to turn the handle. It will take about 2 minutes of turning to spin the CD through 360 degrees. There is then a switch to flip on the handle, which will make the CD spin in reverse. I took out the CD, cleaned it with the felt cloth included and then buffed it with the small white pad, also included (These last two steps HAVE to be done or else the CD won’t work). I put the CD on, and it worked, so I then proceeded to fix all my other CDs.

This is where the Skipdoctors one flaw comes in. Sometimes you’ll have to use it 4 or 5 times before a CD works again, and even then it still might not work correctly.

However this doesn’t withdraw much from the overall product. It really is superb. It is nicely moulded and isn’t a pain to use. The parts can be removed for easy storage. I recommend that every household should have a Skipdoctor. It has saved my hundreds on buying replacement CDs. If you buy this you‘ll only need worry about snapping your CDs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Use toothpaste!, 28 Jan 2004
By Niko Miaoulis (Dungeness, Kent United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I borrowed one of these to try it, it is next to useless, you would be far better doing what I have done for years use a good quality metal polish (Brasso wadding is superb)or even toothpaste (yes toothpaste it has a gentle abrasive in it) and polish directly on the scratch from the centre out, rinse well with water and dry, again from the centre out. You may need to do this 2 or three times for deeper scratches. No repair system will work on scratches on the other side of the disk (the printed side) these are the ones that usualy mean you have to ditch the disk, as the data itself is destroyed rather than the window that the laser is trying to read through.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works, but not a miracle, 23 Nov 2003
Hi; the SkipDr. thing works. I borrowed a CD from a friend, and the CD was very scratched. Big and small scratches. all the small ones are eliminated, and each time I put the CD through the machine (no, not the motorized one; my hands got tired!) -I played the CD, and it skipped less.
This is audible. The CD isn't perfect yet, but I think I put it through the skipdoctor 7 or 8 times, and it's still getting better. I still see 2 scratches; these are not the worst scratches I've seen, and they may be possible to remove completely.
IF you're a pig with your CDs/DVDs, you don't deserve SkipDr. anyway, but if you do care for your CDs, like I do - always have the cover ready when you take them out of the drive/player, and always put them directly from the cover into the drive/player, you should not have problems, but accidents may occur.
Another thing:
Do NOT use soap (the do-dishes soap), it will RUIN your CDs.
I've heard that alcohol could be used.
Always wipe from the center of the disc to the edge, in a straight line; never round-and-round, which causes micro-scratches that confuses the player/drive.
I don't know about the resurfacing fluid; IF you want to use water, please make sure that you boil the water, rather than using it straight from the tap. I haven't tried it yet, but it may be worth mentioning it here, so you don't ruin your discs beyond repair.
