Anyone preparing to take the required written exam before putting in for a driving test would do well to investigate Driving Test Success Theory 2003/2004. The CD-ROM includes every question in the official DSA Driving Theory Test Question Bank--over 1,000 of them--and a host of useful extras.

The main menu is divided into four sections. From here you can either learn some Highway Code theory, take an exam, run the included bonus "Hazard Perception" CD-ROM (this is now an important part of the theory exam) or look up something in the Highway Code.

If you click on the "Learn Some Theory" option, you'll be taken straight to the learning module where there are 20 untimed multiple choice questions. You can click on the answers and plough on through, but if you get stuck there's a Hint button that will help you out, as well as a Highway Code button which will take you straight to the relevant section of the Code where you can find out more; if you get the answer wrong, click the "Why" button and the program will deliver the correct answer along with an explanation. Clicking the "Take an Exam" heading takes you straight to a 35-question, timed test which mimics the actual written exam. Taken together these sections encourage you to brush up on your overall knowledge and provide some useful practice for the test.

Under the Information menu you'll find an electronic version of the Highway Code and a whole bunch of other extras including "Show Me, Tell Me", a new part of the practical driving test that assesses your ability to keep your vehicle in a roadworthy condition. This is particularly useful if you're a mechanical duffer and covers basic maintenance such as changing a wheel (it even explains where to find the spare wheel), checking your brake fluid, bump starting, changing a fuse and so on. You'll also find a list of local test centres, driving schools--this is less useful, Wales only has two listed--and a handy Motoring Information section that includes contact details for accessory suppliers, car makers, rental companies, insurance, government agencies, motoring organisations and so on.

The addition of a "taster" CD-ROM containing 50 video clips in the style of those used in the new Hazard Perception test makes this a comprehensive aid to passing your test. --Rob Beattie

OK, so the driving theory test is not exactly like sitting your finals, but there are a few stinkers in there these days, and unless you have practiced with a book or with a CD like this, you could be looking at a humilating failure that you could well do with out! Using a previous incarnation of this CD, I got full marks first time. I found the video questions particularly helpful to practice, and know that many people found them tricky in the actual test. The questions are all categorised just like in the books, so you can concentrate on trouble spots.

The reason I say that you might not need this CD is simply because many driving instructors already have a copy that they are prepared to give you, so you'd be best to check it out first. That said, I had several people asking to borrow my CD, and I found it worth having simply because it was easier to use than the old style theory books.

The list of extra goodies you get with this new CD makes it worth buying in their own right, and crucially, the questions are valid from AFTER 1st July 2003 as well, so there's no need to worry about missing some new questions which are introduced from time to time.

You can sit practice tests which are timed, presented and scored in exactly the same way as the real test, so after a few practices, you can guarantee that you don't mess up by doing anything silly. So, unless your driving instructor gives you the CD first, you'd be well advised to invest a small amount of cash on this very helpful little CD-Rom, and guarantee that you pass first time and get on with the difficult bit, learning to drive!

This CD Rom is exellent. Cheaper than the official discs and books. It comes very close to the real theory test. There is plenty of studying you can do with these disks and if you regularly achieve the pass mark then you know you will pass the real test and you can apply for you test with confidance.

The hazzard perception cd is equally good and very close in content and in practice to that of the real test.

An excellent buy and well worth the money.(Cheaper than resitting your test).

My driving instructor gave me this 2-Disc theory driving compliation, and from the outset i was impressed by the presentation of the package. Everything in the first disc (theory question section) seemed clear and logically explained. And comparison of results over time using automated charts to monitor progress is a refreshing composition to the program.

However, the second disc, which contains the hazard perception, i feel has let me down somewhat, because althoguh the core basis of how u are tested for hazards is the same, there are glaring differences to the way in which you are tested in observation and the method of wich this is done, i do not think this can properly prepare you for the test. Its good for use to get a feeling of how its done when u are properly tested, but i don't think it really does much justice, which is a shame.

For the theory questions section alone, i beleive this to be an essential buy for practising for the theory test. Also, the "show me, tell me" section is a worthy inclusion for preparing for this new section of the driving practical test.
