You will complete this once and then it will collect dust, 4 Aug 2004

I was addicted to Fallout 2, for many months, and to be honest still am, but I am at present in remission. When I saw that Fallout was to be transferred to the PS2, as an action game, I was overjoyed, for the RPG game, was a little light on action, but the free style of the game and the way that characters reacted to what you said was the key to this being a great game. When I first started playing BOD, my first reaction was brilliant, but as I progressed I could not ignore the sheer sameness of the levels, you go round in circles and after a while you just go into auto pilot hack and shoot. The main problem was that there was no variation, in fallout 2, every section of the map was different, on some you were a sheriff, on others you had to blast your way through and then take out specific targets, while rescuing someone else. Other zones, it was not advisable to get your weapons out at all (although you had the option). I found that after I had completed BOD, there no reason to play the game again, because of the lack of variation. So final thought, decent game, but for anyone who has enjoyed the enormity of Fallout 2, very disappointing, no real RPG elements, and too simple for my tastes

Fallout Makes a welcome arrival on the console, 29 Jun 2004
There has been a large debate between Fallout fans about whether the franchise should have ever looked at making a transition to the console.I think this should be settled by the game itself. From my eperience of playing it I have deduced that what console games need when they are making a expansion from the PC is differentiation, something that makes the gameplay different from that of the PC. Fallout:BOS does just that. It was not Interplays intention to re-create Fallout on the PS2/Xbox, rather it was their idea to create a fast paced 3rd person adventure that would constantly keep you on your toes; and they succeeded. This game makes a welcome change from the slow turn based combat of Fallout, and although I dearly love Fallout and Fallout 2, it is nice to have a bash at constantly hitting the X and Triangle buttons so that you can mash Raiders, Radscorpians and Muntants into pieces. Much like their Dark alliance games, this one makes for a fun adventure through the Fallout world and I urge Fallout fans to at least give it a try before criticising it.

Tedious after a single play through, 27 Sep 2009
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This is a pretty one dimensional top down scrolling shoot them up, as another reviewer said you will complete this once and then it will collect dust.
To be honest I rushed out and bought it because of the Fallout label, have bought both of the other game for the PC before buying this console game and having since bought the other PC games too. The Fallout franchise on the PC is fantastic, huge free roaming RPGs in which there is a great potential for replaying them with different choices and hence different outcomes, not simply in the conclusion of the game but in character building and more minor sub-plots.
There has been some attempt made to import this into the console game but its failed more or less, you do get to interact with some of the characters and there are aspects of the Mad Max post-apocalypse morality and mythos but its window dressing on a pretty rudimentary top down scroller. Similarly the character building is not that exciting or flexible and I never felt it had that massive an impact upon game play.
While I did think it is a better game that some of this genre available at the time I purchased it, there where some really poor sword and sorcery examples around which where almost straight throwbacks to the tedium of very early Playstation 1 Loaded (Playstation), its a rental game if you ask me.
The storyline is amusing, similar to some of the fallout games, mutants, plots, mega baddies, an abandoned military compound, some humourous twists and a big giant goopy final boss to contend with (although if you've not been lucky to accumulate the right amount of ammunition throughout the game for the right weapons you'll have to start from the very beginning again to stand a chance). The voice acting was corny and cool but wouldnt tempt me to play and replay the game much.
