Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Arguably the element of the Harry Potter books and films that most lends itself to a video game, Quidditch is a strange sport, and initially seems quite complicated. However, in the new game Quidditch World Cup, it's both fun to play and a good choice for all the family.

It's also more straightforward than you'd think. Much thought has clearly gone into providing a gentle learning curve, and picking up the basics of the game is supremely easy. It's helped, of course, by having familiar faces from the Harry Potter world all along the way, guiding you through what you need to know.

The ultimate aim is to walk away with the prize of the game's title, but first there's the small matter of the Hogwart's tournament to win. You align yourself with one of the four houses, and seek to win that before you can move on to the international stages. And that promptly gets you into the heart of the action.

The gameplay, as you'd expect, is frantic and exciting, and while it's not going to keep the older gamer occupied for too long, its target audience is clearly going to be in its element. To keep things going that bit longer, you can earn Quidditch cards as you progress. These are rewards given to you along the way, and can unlock fresh elements of the game. With plenty to collect, it's an added feature that helps prolong the game's lifespan.

Quidditch World Cup is a game with obvious appeal to the many legions of Harry Potter fans. Fortunately for parents the world over, thanks to entertaining gameplay and its faithfulness to the source material, it's not going to disappoint them. --Simon Brew

Manufacturer's Description

In the Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup game, Harry Potter fans can fully experience the magical power, speed, and competition of Quidditch, the favourite sport of witches and wizards.

The magical sport of Quidditch is an exciting and challenging game involving two teams of seven players who fly on broomsticks, four balls in simultaneous play (one Quaffle, two Bludgers, and the elusive Golden Snitch), and a unique scoring system. In Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, players can control all the Quidditch positions and high-flying moves, scoring with Chasers, defending with Beaters and the Keeper, and trying to capture the Snitch with the Seeker. Gamers can choose any one of the four Hogwarts House teams (including Harry Potter's Gryffindor and Draco Malfoy's Slytherin) to triumph in the Hogwarts Cup, gaining an opportunity to attend the Quidditch World Cup.

In the international World Cup tournament, players can choose to play for professional teams, which include the USA, Bulgaria (featuring Victor Krum), the hard-hitting Nordics, England, Japan, France, Germany, and Australia. Sporting their own Quidditch uniforms and unique stadium environment, each nation has different strengths and tactics that lend strategy and depth as players progress through a unique ladder system.

3.0 out of 5 stars add one if you love HP , minus one if your impartial, 7 Dec 2003
By the quivermaster (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
dont get me wrong this game is lots of fun with very few problems only non-harry potter fans are not gonna go through this game for 2 mins without all the hairs on the back of their head standing on end.

the game itself is fun and can produce some fun finger bitingly close contests as you urge your character to just catch that snitch!

lots of thought has gone into the design of all the different countries and their quidditch teams and stadiums.

plus
+fun and frantic and hard competition on the hardest level
+real voice actors from the movies and lots of well known faces
+well made learning curve
+quidditch cards to collect

minus
-basic graphics
-too slow!
-not enough freedom
-not enough options

what truly should make you buy this game is simply the fact that there is NOTHING AT ALL LIKE IT. honestly strange as it is there isnt a game like this at all to play in real life or on computer games unless you know of 14 enchanted brooms 4 different balls and 14 mates who dont mind being blugered and beaten all in the name of glory. so you will be parting with your money then? good to hear it! :-)

This was a present for my wife, but I think I have played it more.

A must have if you are a Harry fan. Good fun for sports games fan, general good action fun.

I think it is out on all platforms, but the 'Cube version is a lot of fun (I don't know what the others are like).

4.0 out of 5 stars EA - Heros or Zeros?, 30 Nov 2003
I LOVE EA. It's true - I want to marry them. Although some hate them (with a passion)I think they're master game makers. They forged LOTR with excellence and crafted Nightfire with brilliance. And this is no exception - the gameplay is fantastic, addictive, and great to play. Although the graphics aren't pefect, the moment you get your head around the passing you wont put your controller down for weeks. You can play as nine different countries (including Bulgaria but you have to unlock them first) and although I don't think you can play as Ireland (you might get it after unlocking Bulgaria but I'm not sure) it's still great. But I do admit it would be REALLY dumb for them to forget Ireland, unless they inlcude them in a sequel. Merry gameplaying!
