3.0 out of 5 stars It helps to have a sense of fun..., 17 May 2007
By Buster Bloodvessel (Southeast UK) - See all my reviews
Yeah, okay, it's not the greatest movie ever made. If you have a sense of fun, though, and aren't expecting too much, it's a great film! George Burns as Mr. Kite? Alice Cooper singing "Because"? There are too many classic moments to mention here. It's a goofy, idiotic movie. In that way, how is it so different from almost every movie that's being released these days? Do yourself a favour and check it out!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disaster, 9 Nov 2006

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I remember the trailers for this and thinking the is a guaranteed flop, it was. There were so many discordant elements to it.

* The Bee Gees were very big at the time but had no credibility amongst serious music fans nor any proven track record of actually appearing in films.
* Peter Frampton was big for sure, having shot to fame from seemingly nowhere, despite his time in Humble Pie before his big solo success but again the coupling with the Gibb brothers seemed to be only to make up the numbers.
* The look of the film was like an obscure theme park. This is a really bad thing since even the market leaders in this field are just too tacky for words
* The story-line was very weak
* Musically this did little justice to the Beatles songs

The makers of this film failed to grasp that the people who liked the Bee Gees were not necessarily the same people who still carried the torch for the Beatles, who at that time were seen to be a bit old hat and the people who were into them usually loathed the Bee Gees, nor did they pay any attention to the legacy of the Beatles and threw in as many elements as they could in the belief that they would broaden the appeal of the movie but as I alluded to above these elements just cancelled each other out, with potential audiences being more likely be put off than attracted.

Despite all this I did give it a go but it was awful. This DVD is for obsessive collectors or students of film making as a cautionary tale.

Beware!!

Except for the narration, this film is for hardcore beatles fans only. The producer does not do justice to either the material or the artists featured
