1.0 out of 5 stars don't even think about it, 25 Jun 2003
By A Customer
as a big fan of all things compost related, i've followed the work of rainer trüby, be it compilations or remixes and have always been impressed. so it goes without saying that i bought the album when it was released without listening to it.
please, don't do that.
it is a blend of dull nu-jazz at it's most predictable, punctuated with smug, misguided r n b. there are a couple of salsa-influenced tunes which are ok (jaleo and alegro 2003) but nothing groundbreaking, standing out only in the respect that they are listenable all the way through.

if you're looking for things along similar lines that won't have you returning it, as i did, within 12 hours then go for jazzanova.

sorry rainer...

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for all of us!!!, 17 Jun 2003
Being an avid Fan of Gilles Peterson's weekly Worldwide broadcast on Radio One, I soon became accustomed to the sounds of one of his favourite producer's, and close friend Rainer Truby. Truby had a big hand in seeting up the now infamous Compost Records label with Michael Reinboth, and was renowned for making music on his own at first. Truby's influence was clear to hear, a concoction of electronic and latin dance music tinged with a dash of house and drum and bass. After a few years of persuing his solo career as a producer, Truby soon formed the 'Truby Trio', working alongside Roland Appel and Christian Prommer. Their first major hit as a group was the latin influenced drum and bass anthem 'A Go Go', which is featured on the album. It was clear to see the direction the Trio were paving for themselves, and after much of their music was being plugged through Gilles Peterson (both at clubs and over the radio), it was only a matter of time until their debut LP would be released. The result (Elevator Music), is as brilliant as it is diverse! From the off, we get a taste of things to come with 'The Rhythm Part 1', which is merely an interlude, but gives enough away to entice us to listen to more. As we get further into the album, stand out tracks such as 'New Music', 'Jaleo' and 'A Festa' prove that mixing house, latin, jazz and drum and bass is a formula that really does work! The album really does ooze quality, from the production, to the guest appearances (from the likes of Marcus Begg, Wumni, Concha Buika and Joseph Malik), 'Elevator Music' just delivers good music throughout. I would recommend this record to anyone who is open minded, and is looking for an album which they can listen to over and over. A fantastic debut!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh yes, 16 Jul 2003

This is the first full length release by the Trüby Trio who have been around for what appears to be forever. Some of you might be familiar with tracks such as "A go go", "Carajillo" or "Galicia" as well as their DJ kicks offering and remix work. In this release the Trüby Trio have combined all of their best efforts and more into making an absolutely brilliant release and very much up there with the best of the Compost label releases. The set is very much in that Jazzy vein but offers that little bit more for the discerning listener; Brazillian, flamenco, soul and Latin. There are lots of great tracks to recommend such as "A Festa", "Jaleo", "Runnin", "A Go Go", "Universal Love" to name a few.

Try for yourself and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
