Mayday Murders arrive at the party!!, 27 Aug 2003

This was a band recommended to me by a friend who came across them via English Record Label Fire Records. I thought I would give them a try and have found myself listening to this 5 song cd over and over again since.
The first song bangs in with a simple riff coming over the Detroit landscape, discovering The Jesus and Mary Chains old rhythm boxes!! The singer howls like The Sonics re-born as he tells his would-be lover "I just want you!" It's a lively and noisy introduction to this new band.
"The Outcome" clashes in on a surf guitar sound but finishes with the singer imagining a time when "punk was here but I wasnt't born". It's a pure electric exaltation of life-affirming values that today is the day!!!
"Shut Down" travels from Americana Byrds-type sounds to the solo Lou Reed plays live sometimes..! It's a dream-like song, you're in it and floating around somehow!
Last song "Everyone, Everything" signs off the cd in acoustic fashion as childhood memories mix with lazy days. Think of Mississippi John Hurt backing Evan Dando..
I listen to this cd a lot. It's uplifting, exciting and leaves me waiting in anticipation for whats to follow..
I don't know anything about the people who made this, and there's not much in the way of credits on the sleeve, but I'm looking forward to hearing more about them soon....
