1.0 out of 5 stars No redeeming features., 6 Dec 2003
This release suffers from the following problems:-

1) The general quality of the image is very poor - this isn't purely down to the old film stock but poor multi-generation tape transfers (the Ringo Starr footage is the worst).
2) A full screen caption card (with shooting stars background) introduces each clip and ends up obscuring the film footage for the first 8 seconds or so, and because they've come in slightly late anyway quite often the first line of the track is missed (in vision).

3) When you do get into the archive footage an annoying banner of useless information crawls across the bottom of the screen for at least half a minute.
4) Some bizarre editing during some tracks, notably "Venus" by Shocking Blue, also "Apeman" by the Kinks lasts barely a minute, and their 1970 hit "Lola" is represented by a late 80s (?) concert performance.
5) The so-called "Gallery" is just a paltry selection of frame grabs from the poor quality footage.

The "Sensational sounds of the 70s" DVD from a different company uses some of the same footage but on that release the film sequences are presented complete (practically from the first frame) and there's no added electronic captions either. So, although the picture quality is still fairly poor (very grainy & dirty 16mm footage) the presentation on that release is far superior to this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Teen years revisited, 23 Feb 2008

This DVD recalls some of the bands one only saw on TOTP. They still feel fresh and joyfull as they did when I was a teenager.

Bringing back a lot of good memories.
