Product Description

Ergonomic design and high performance make the L1710B 17" TFT DVI monitor from LG stand out as an excellent all-round choice when looking for a quality flat-screen display.

Design-wise, the LG1710B combines versatility and convenience with compact styling and space-saving features. Unlike many other flat-panel screens the power supply is integrated into the monitor itself to reduce cable-clutter and make mounting the monitor on a wall a neater, easier option. There is also an integrated USB hub, which can be very useful when trying to connect additional devices to your PC, plus a neat keyboard storage feature to help you reclaim lost desk space.

In common with all LG's Flatron LCD series monitors, the LG1710B features a high-quality TFT LCD screen with a wide viewing angle to ensure a consistently excellent image from every direction. Dual-connectivity lets you make the best of your purchase, with the standard analogue monitor connection being supplemented by a DVI (Digital Visual Interface) socket, allowing high-quality digital-to-digital connection between computer and monitor for the ultimate in picture quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best 17inch LCD monitor with DVI in this price range, 11 Jun 2003
By A Customer
This monitor displays bright & crisp images and I was not disappointed to use it as a replacement for my aging top of the range CRT. It copes well with digital photo editing and comes with colour correction software to display and print as close to the original colours as possible.

Some LCD's display ghosting when moving the mouse quickly but this is not evident with this screen due to its 16ms response time (fastest I have seen yet). Also came with DVI and DSUB cables which I had expected to have to obtain at additional cost.

I opted for this monitor after weeks of research to replace my CRT and found this to be the best priced LCD with DVI output and most importantly a fast response time which is as important for LCD's as refresh rates are for CRT's.

The power supply is neatly housed in the stand keeping cables tidy and as a bonus you even get 2 USB ports built in saving the hassle of plugging into the back of the base unit.

It only gets 4 stars due to it having one permanently lit pixel even though this is common with all manufacturers and doesn't really affect it's operation.

If you are looking to replace your CRT at an affordable price you won't be disappointed with this monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!! This TFT, Sooooo Good., 22 Oct 2003
Well, i have been thinking of upgrading to a TFT from my CRT for some months now, but i do a lot of fast online gaming like Medal of Honour and my wife does a lot of Nursing assignments, so needs sharp text. So wondered after listening to people opinions if it was such a good idea, damn, no need to worry. This monitor is superb, the DVI connection makes a big difference over my old analogue CRT, The colours are wonderful, vivid and bright, and the text is pin-sharp, the 16ms response time surprised me, this is very fast, and i had no blurring or ghosting when tyring the games.
Changing from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 on my desktop took a little getting used to, but looks very nice once you are used to it, no glare from the monitor either, a bonus, another worry i had was only hitting the recommended 60Hz on the refresh rate, would it be enough i wondered. Well, the picture is solid, and totally flicker free, one of the benefits of moving up to digital i guess.
After a day with this you would not want anything else, for anyone reading this who is thinking of getting a new TFT or a new monitor at all, then look no further, it was the reviews here that swung it for me, and it's not the no1 selling TFT at Amazon for nothing.
Superb, and using my Radeon 9800 Pro with it is a bonus as the monitor is optomized for Radeons.
I just can't believe colours could look so good. Damn.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good build quality, picture and performance., 29 Dec 2003
By Wibles (Oxfordshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
The way forward for all monitors is to TFT with a high contrast ratio and while a 18" or 19" would increase useability and performance to a new plane, realistically a good 17" will soon be the norm.

I'll first make the case for TFT monitors. We just purchased 35 TFT monitors for work and a subsequent straw poll was staggering. 35 votes for TFT, 0 votes for CRT. Among the reasons were the obvious things like increased desk space, sleeker professional look and feel, whiter whites and so on. But almost unanimously the main reason was a reduction in eye strain and corresponding increase in enjoyment (and work rate) while sitting boggle-eyed at the PC.

I bought one of these for the home office and compared it with a more expensive Iiyama 18" rotatable unit. You probably won't be surprised to hear that this smaller 17" unit with a contrast ration of 450:1 beat the bigger monitor hands-down. The refresh seemed clearer, whiteness was brighter (such that ICI would almost class defnitely class it as "brilliant") and videos and games have much more fluid movement with faster pixel redrawing - as fast as 16ms - pretty close to CRTs. Certainly the monitor is fast enough that the naked eye will not be able to discern any "ghosting" effects where if a bright image changes to a dark image, the bright image fades slowly. None of that with this monitor.

It is definitely worth making sure your system's video card has a DVI connection as the resulting picture quality will be markedly improved and will suffer much less interference from power supplies and the like.

So, if you spend more that 1hr a day on the PC, suffer from eye strain, get head-aches because of too much monitor work or just want excellent video display... this ought to be high on your list of possibilities.

[NB. I think many would consider such a glowing reference would deserve a 5 star.. maybe 4.5 then. I'll save the 5 stars for its bigger 18" cousin, the LG L1810B.]
