Product Description

Album Description

The distinctive sound of the slide guitar is an intrinsic feature in blues, Hawaiian and Indian music. On 'Mahima', these traditions meet in the capable hands of two of the world's greatest slide guitarists, Debashish Bhattacharya and Bob Brozman. In the process, the two have created a true hybrid, a spectacular union of guitarists on a unique album, which also showcases the vocal talents of Sutapa Bhattacharya and tabla master Subhashis Bhattacharya

Personnel: Bob Brozman - (slide guitar), Debashish Bhattacharya - (slide guitar), Sutapa Bhattacharya - (vocals), Subhashis Bhattacharya - (tabla)

4.0 out of 5 stars Some great sounds, but some that don't quite hit the spot, 25 Oct 2007
By swfc (Oxford, UK) - See all my reviews
I'm fairly new to Indian music, and found the guitar sound a really nice combination with the more traditional sounds.
Some tracks are superb, while others seem to miss the spot a little.
Definitely worth a listen, and a good insight into Indian music from a westerners perspective

4.0 out of 5 stars Bhattacharya meets Brozman, 29 Jun 2007

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
A much more poppy album than some of Bhattacharya's others, this features a goodish number of short tracks. Also playing slide guitar is Bob Brozman (hence the crossover presumably), but Bhattacharya blows him RIGHT away. The man's a genius.

I guess this might not please you if you're a purist: indeed, it lacks the depth of pure classical Indian music (hence only 4 stars). But Bhattacharya's musicianship is so persuasive that one is swept away.

An absolute highlight for me is the singing of Bhattacharya's sister Sutapa - astonishing!
