Amazon.co.uk Review
Everybody move your feet--it's time for fun: whether you're a beginner, a fanatic or looking for a new exercise routine, Dancing Stage MegaMix, which features tracks by Kylie Minogue, Sugababes, Elvis vs JXL and The Cure, is going to be an enjoyable addition to your PS2 collection.

There are three modes of play--game, workout and lesson. Game Mode allows you to choose to play the arcade version (one player), a two-player challenge, or for the truly gifted, there's Double-game play--one player, two dance mats. With an incredible choice of tracks and some inspirational cheering ("You're a super dancer!") from the voice-over guy you'll have danced yourself dizzy in no time. Bonuses are awarded for free-style moves, with additional tracks and hidden items unlocked as the game progresses.

Got no rhythm? Are you a dance mat beginner? Check yourself into Lesson Mode--with three lessons comprising eight separate sections you should master dance mat basics and get yourself familiar with some moves and sequences within an hour. Or if you're after an alternative to sweating it out in the gym or jogging the same streets, try Workout Mode--set your own goals, choose your workout type and watch the calorie counter ticking over.

Dancing Stage MegaMix is for everyone--with dancefloor favourites from Kylie and Elvis vs JXL, and younger audience tracks like S Club Junior's "One Step Closer" (as well as The Cure's "Love Cats" for anyone who may claim not to like pop music), no-one will be able resist getting footloose. Those waiting their turn can sing along courtesy of karaoke-style lyrics that appear on the bottom of the screen. Points to note: a dance mat is not strictly necessary (though very much recommended), and you can turn off the background booing during game play via the Options menu. --Mel Pring

3.0 out of 5 stars Dancing Stage MegaMix? Meh., 30 May 2003
By Rage* (Chester, UK) - See all my reviews
A lot of you will probably be excited about the first UK release of the popular Dancing Stage series on PS2.
The graphics are much better than previous PS1 versions, the interface being based on the one that Dancing Stage EuroMix 2 uses. (in the arcade)
However, it seems that us UK customers have got a bad deal again.

There are 7 newly licensed songs for this edition, (the Sugababes and Ms Dynamite songs are NOT in it.) but they are all extremely easy.

They are only rated at 4 feet (out of 10) on expert mode, which is plain wrong. (most Expert songs are around the 7-9 mark)
This means that the casual player, who normally plays at "standard|" and "difficult" mode will master these songs in no time at all.

The other 21 songs in the game (there are only 28 - which is ridiculous, as the last PlayStation 1 version had over 50) are Konami Originals, with popular songs such as Groove 2001, Crash! and Max 300, (which is a hidden song that has to be unlocked) but a lot of the other songs are new to UK players.

If you are mad about Konami's dance game series, then you should probably buy this.

But if you're hoping to play all your arcade favourites, you will be disappointed.

The game would have benefitted from the addition of more of the most popular songs from the arcade, such as 5678, Living In America, Cotton-Eye Joe and Candy. (Candy was rumoured to be a hidden song, as it was in the American and Japanese versions, but this looks unlikely now)

Considering versions available in other countries have over 60 songs, this is a major disappointment.

If you're after a Dancing Stage game for your PS1 or 2, I would rate them as follows.

Dancing Stage Party Edition - Very good but no beginner mode.
Dancing Stage MegaMix - Some good songs.
Dancing Stage Euromix - All the best songs are missing from the home version.
