Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Author Tom Clancy has written some fine novels, and UbiSoft has written some great games based on these works; Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is one such release. This one is a bit different, however: it models itself on that champion of espionage Metal Gear Solid 2, which, as it happens, is a good thing.

As Sam Fisher, you're out to save the world from international terrorism. In doing this, stealth is of paramount importance. Splinter Cell makes terrific use of light and shadows in this regard. If Sam Fisher stays in the dark, he is less likely to be seen; but equipped with night-vision goggles you're not hindered by the lighting effects. It's a clever system that creates some memorable scenes and adds to the sensation of being undercover.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is a supremely balanced game. The initial training received is just long enough, gameplay is perfectly weighted between stealth and action, and the blend of different objectives in missions ensures that the experience never becomes a chore. This is as compelling a spy game as you'll ever play. --Jonti Davies

GamesMaster Magazine
"Blends stealth and action near-perfectly. Tense and thrilling, the GameCube version even has extra features and gadgets. 89%."

5.0 out of 5 stars My review for splinter cell [gamecube], 31 Oct 2003
This game is a tense thrilling game of skill and fun. It is tactical and sometimes annoying but getting there in the end is always such a sense of acheivement. You will need to think hard and look after your bullets as much as you can, as well as how much alarms you have set off! You always have to keep a close eye on your health because the damage of bullets is extremely realistic. Splinter Cell is great game for people who have been gaming for quite a while. It is rather expensive but very wortwhile those car washes and dog walks!! I recommend this to experienced gamers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but perhaps not great in everyones eyes., 28 Nov 2003
This game intrigued me from the start, as an older gamer I relish the chance to get my hands on a game with a meatier storyline and more adult themes and here splinter cell delivers. The voice acting is solid and the script is excellent even managing to throw in some genuinly amusing moments into the Tom Clancy plot line.
As an overall gaming experience however it does have its drawbacks and ultimatly will not appeal to everyone. Those gamers who like to be in thick and fast action should probably stear clear, if however you are a more thoughtful and patient gamer you should thoroughly enjoy this offering from Ubi Soft.
The plotline (in a nutshell) revolves around our hero Sam fisher trying to avert World War III by sneaking through a variety of situations and collecting damning evidence on the bad guys. Sam Fisher amkes an excellent main character with plenty of slick looking moves to keep you entertained and hopefully help avoid your detection.
The primary pull of this game is achieved through the tension it manages to create, I found myself actually breaking into a sweat in some of the later levels! Ultimately however the overall game is a little let down by one or two niggles, firstly it is a little short and an experienced gamer will complete it on the normal setting with relative ease, secondly the very last section comes as a bit of an anticlimax in the grand scheme of things leaving you a bit dissapointed when the credits finally roll and finally there is very little to make you come back for more and once you have completed the game, which should take little more than 10 hours, there is no extra features to keep you coming back. Saying this however if stealth is your thing Splinter Cell comes highly recommended and you can add another star to my review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good but could have been great, 26 Feb 2004

Splinter Cell is a very good game. From the presentation and story through to the graphics and the all important gameplay it's a winner. It does become a little unfair in terms of save points and difficulty during the late stages, but it's worth the perseverence. Recommended for fans of stealth/combat/shoot em ups and adventure games in general.
