Product Description

CD Description
Even though Inspectah Deck might not have as high a profileas Wu-Tang compatriots like ODB or Method Man, he's no lesstalented. His first solo album, UNCONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, wasbursting with the kind of hardcore, street-level hip-hop that had become so dead to Wu-Tang fans. Apparently he was pretty busy with group projects after that, since it took four years for this follow-up to appear. Deck gets to the point right away, as THE MOVEMENT's intro finds him declaring "goneare the days of that commercial hip-hop". The sound he offers up as an alternative to hip-pop fluff is full of evocative, occasionally almost dub-like loops, and uncompromising rhymes that ooze street-cred without getting too caught up in hollow thug-life bravado. There's a dark lyrical tinge to THE MOVEMENT, but the pure visceral energy of Deck's style generates enough energy to keep depression at bay.

4.0 out of 5 stars good, but not classic, 16 Jul 2003
compared to inspectah decks previous effort, uncontrolled substance, this albums immediately seems more high energy and upbeat.
this is not the sort of album that will be remembered for years to come but it provides high energy enjoyment and a refreshing change from the less energetic uncontrolled substance. think of R.E.C room from the previous album and apply the energy from that to gems on this album such as big city, city high and bumpin grindin. the beats are energetic and retro style and the lyrics are what you expect from deck, but no quite as memorable as some of uncontolled substances lyrics.

deck does show some emotion on the last track from the cradleto the grave, providing a sow beat and a rnb type hook. the real winners or me are shorty right there due to its funky beat and good appearance from streetlife and big city.

if i could give this 3.5 stars instead of 4 i would, beacause it jut fails to deliver that final lyrical punch that would make ita classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rebel INS pleases with second album, 16 Jun 2003
This is much better than Uncontrolled Substance, the rhymes are more fluid and the beats are so much better. The album is pretty dark but has an ironic humour coarsing through its veins. There aren't as many guest spots featuring on the album as the last album yet this has the positive effect of remaining wu-tang, without sounding like another wu-tang album. There is a video made for track 5 "the movement". Another track with kool g rap and killa sin is bangin.
I say buy it as its totally non commercial with wicked beats and so u can restore your faith in the wu-tang clan's ability to produce good stuff since their early work.

3.0 out of 5 stars too much music, not enough ideas, 20 May 2008
This isn't bad. It's certainly better than Meth's Tical 0, than Raekwon's Immobilarity, than Ghost's Bulletproof Wallets, than Cappadonna's Ying and Yang... but I'm not sure I'm going to be listening to it all that often.

There are some nice ideas, some interesting loops - particularly the deep horn and minimalist guitar sound in "That S**t" - there are some catchy choruses, and Deck's flow is smooth... it's just that he never breaks out of the couplet rhyming scheme, never gets as creative on the mic as some of his better known Wu brethren. And with few guest rappers making an appearance, the lack of variation soon leads to boredom. Nearly every track clocks in at 3:30 or more, but even this is too long! There just aren't enough ideas to maintain my interest. Occasionally the music seems to be going somewhere, but at the point of climax there's nothing. A guitar band might kick the distortion on, but these tracks are really struggling for somewhere to go next. I can't help thinking that this record would be better if its 16 tracks had been condensed down make to 10 or 12.

So, as I said; it's not bad. I'll probably listen to it 5 times this year... but does that make buying it worthwhile?
