4.0 out of 5 stars interesting..., 15 April 2003
By chadwholovedme (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
A new blur single? It's been a while, but in that time Damon has had huge success globally with gorillaz and the other two well we don't get word of that, and alas graham has departed to his lo fi solo projects, but with out all four members is this blur? Well whatever it is it good, but it feels like a lead guitar is missing. The bside though to any doubter is very much blur and very up temp a total contrast to 'out of time'. But you can't help but see this this a climb down from the brilliance of 'music is my radar' they're best single to date and possibly grahams swan song. Out of time is an exciting and still interesting move forward but fingers crossed graham'll be back.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing comeback against the odds, 14 April 2003
By J. Batchelor "Jam Jar" (Cardiff) - See all my reviews

With all thats happened since Blur's last single 'Music is my radar' in 2000, it's surprising that Blur are even back at all.
Side projects a plenty and losing an important band member, you'd be forgiven for writing the band off completly.
But WOW! what a song to prove otherwise, all remaining band members sound very competant on their instruments and they have made a beautiful masterpiece of a song that sounds like nothing else right now.
This ranks among the finest Blur singles ever!

4.0 out of 5 stars Blur's new single- not bad actually, 12 April 2003
Recent times have been fairly turbulent for Britpop’s golden boys Blur. Having parted company acrimoniously with guitarist Graham Coxon and with Damon Albarn seemingly preoccupied with his cartoon-pop side projects, ‘Out Of Time’ is the band’s first single for almost three years.
Worrying reports of new album ‘Think Tank’s “dance oriented” and “difficult” new direction hint at Albarn’s greater control of Blur’s artistic reigns but thankfully ‘Out Of Time’ though not your usual Blur, is a slow-burning beauty.
Built around a subdued Moroccan influenced bassline and flurries of Spanish guitars it is Albarn’s unusually serene vocals rather than the technological tweaks and flourishes, that gradually melts your heart. Whilst Albarn sings ‘…watch the world spinning gently out of time…’ you are left recalling a subtler ‘Tender’ and wondering why Albarn insists on taking this band down the ‘experimental’ road.
Make the most of this while you can because by all reports you my find what comes next hard to stomach.
