Product Description

Album Description
Bedford Falls is the first solo album from top country session player Jim Hornsby. Likened to a cross between Mark Knopfler and Chris Rea, Jim's songwriting talent and mastery of the guitar shine through on these 11 tracks.

Stories of love and life, 2 instrumentals and just a hint of Little Feat make up a quality album which just gets better with every listen. A number of top musicians contribute to the record including Bradley Creswick on violin, leader of the Northern Symphony Orchestra.

Jim has been called in to play for a diverse range of artists ranging from Prefab Sprout to Prelude. He is currently splitting his time between his own gigs and playing with Martin Stephenson with whom he recently completed a European tour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bedford Falls, 5 Aug 2003
Jim Hornsby has shown with 'Bedford Falls' that he is not only a very accomplished and polished guitar player but a first rate lyracist who has the vocal ability to put across his work in marvelously entertaining manner.

Bedford Falls will be enjoyed by anyone who even vaguley likes a slight Country or 'New Nashville' flavour to thier music, it is full of original numbers like 'Look who's talking, 'Clear blue Sky' and 'It just hangs in the air' and great new instrumental version of the old Blue Grass classic 'Wildwood Flower'called not surprisingly 'New wildwood flower' which retains the haunting beauty of the original number whilst adding new musical direction, interst and interpetation in fascinating way with out 'guilding the lilly'.

The standard of musicianship on this album has to be listened to to be truely appreciated. When various elements of this album are examined, the guitar, steel peddle and dobro are first rate for both style and chord work, the fiddle player is almost too good, more along the lines of concert violinist than a fiddle player. Combine the above attributes with a good steady bass line both electric and on one track accoustic, some great backing vocals and you have a really worth while album be it for back ground music or vibrating your speaker cones to pieces. The only critisism I would level are the slightly machanical nature of the drum machine backing on the odd track, but this is really not enough to detract from the overall highly pleasing nature of the finished result.

This is a 5 Star album.

Jim Hornsby has demonstrated that he is not only a highly polished guitar player but is also a first rate lyricist and composer with a voice capable matching his instramental atributes.

The album 'Bedford Falls' contains some of the best easy listening I have heard for along time, encompassing not only a host of original songs like 'I know who you are' and 'Look who's talking' but a beautiful and haunting instrumental version of the old bluegrass favorite 'Wildwood flower' entitled 'The new wildwood flower', before anyone gets the idea that this album is just another bluegrass or country offering, let me state that it is not. The flavour of Bedford Falls has a definate country, new Nashville hint but it is not overpowering, there is genuinely some thing for everybody on this album.

The general standard of musicianship, guitar, dobro and steel pedal is out of the very top drawer. The fiddle playing is of a quality and standard that does not suggest anything less than a first class violinist rather than a 'fiddle player'. Combine these two elements with some more than adequate bass, keyboard backing vocals and the result is a very fine easy listening album that is ideal for background music or vibrating the cones out your loud speaker system with.

I am sure that anyone who purchases this album will be more than pleased with it. If this album gets the publicity and air-time it deserves it will sell, it is simply too good not to.

This is an excellent album and while I don't think it does Jim justice to be described as a cross between Mark Knopfler and Chris Rea, I think that if you like those two artists, you will probably like this. Jim's easy virtuosity on guitar, dobro etc is well explored. The surprise to me, is his voice and his songwriting talent. These are well crafted, engaging songs delivered with warmth and panache.I haven't seen Jim for over twenty years and last time I saw him he had a day job. It's great to hear that he is back where he belongs. Well done.PS Is smcmeekin, the previous reviewer, related to Jim?
