Fancy waking up to the smell of delicious freshly-baked bread? Well, with the Breadman Ultimate from Russell Hobbs you can do just that. This great bread machine makes cooking your own bread quick and easy and includes a 24 hour timer that lets you delay baking so that your bread is ready exactly when you want it.

Loaves can be baked in three different sizes (500g, 750g and 1Kg) and the machine also includes three dough-only cycles to help you make bagels, pizza bases, bread rolls and a whole host of other products.

Actually making your bread is as simple as measuring out ingredients and feeding them into the machine before choosing which programme you want the machine to bake with. In total there are over 110 possible cycle combinations and making your own bread gives you the ideal opportunity to experiment with a wide range of ingredients to produce just the flavour you are after. A fruit, nut and herb dispenser makes sure that additional ingredients are added at just the right point in the cycle and there's even a viewing window to let you keep an eye on your masterpiece as it bakes.

July 2003. After much detailed research on bread machines I recently bought a Russell Hobbs 10006 Breadman Ultimate. It is quite wonderful. There are 110 different settings, but the comprehensive instructions make it easy to understand and simple to use. With all the usual advanced features, 24 hour timer, dispenser, crust colour selector, bake and dough programmes. It also makes cakes, I've made a very good madeira. One of the best features are the 5 personal memory programmes for saving favourite recipes which can be saved or reset to default and saved again. It also bakes 3 different sized loaves. However I would have preferred more than the 16 recipes included. So I bought the Big Book of Bread Machine Recipes by D.R. German from the Amazon bookstore. With over 600 recipes I can't stop baking the most wonderful cheese breads, herb breads, ethnic breads. I'm currently baking a Swedish chocolate bread. No washing up to speak of, no preservatives just wholesome ingredients and perfect results everytime. I love this machine.

I took delivery of my new machine yesterday, and of course had to try it immediately. I have been using a Panasonic breadmaker for about the last 5-6 years, and although the results were always excellent the shape of the loaf is difficult to cut, hence my purchase of the above which bakes a horizontal loaf.
I made one loaf - 2lb size 50-50 wholemeal and white flour baked on the wholemeal set programme with a dark bake and followed the recipe to the letter, apart from sugar which I thought was too much, so instead of 3 tbs used 2 tbs. The bread was excellent. Well risen and beautifully shaped. WONDERFUL to cut! The only complaint I have is that the mixing is noisy - so much so in fact that in comparison with my other machine, which is almost soundless, I would hesitate to use a timer programme overnight. When I have experimented with different programmes, I will report further.

Extensive research took up days of my life when our previous breadmaker expired. The Americans have been home baking for yonks so it was there that I turned for my information. Two machines are clear favourites amongst that community. One, called the Zojian (or similar) is not available in the U.K. and Russell Hobbs have the U.K. license to make the runner up; the Breadman Ultimate.
It's a marvelous machine, reliable, makes superlative bread and is cheaper than some of it's inferior competition. If only it's pan were dishwasher proof, it would be perfect.
