One of the better 'Best of' Perry Como collections!, 29 Nov 2005
This is a much better 'Best of' compilation of Perry Como recordings than some!A 'Best of' compilation certainly gives you more freedom of song selection, but whether that luxury has been used to it's full potential is another matter! This collection includes a nice selection of the popular Juke-box classics such as 'Magic moments' and 'Catch a falling star'. The collection also includes such classics as 'It's impossible' and 'And I love you so' - which certainly proved that Perry could still do well in the charts in the Rock and Pop 1970's! Most pleasing on this collection is the presence of 'Beats there a heart so true' which is definitely classed as a Como rareity and which was only previously released on a compilation titled 'World of dreams' - which is now out of print! Also included is a first time on CD (at that time) song called 'There never was a night so beautiful'. As well as this, Perry Como fans will be pkleased to see the presence of more modern day standards such as '(They long to be) Close to you' - of The Carpenters fame and Perry's superb rendition of 'Something' - a classic song of The Beatles fame. The compilation closes with 'The father of girls' - also possibly on a first time release on Cd (at that time). This song is certainly a special song from the pen of Ervin Drake and released on a superb, but tragically overlooked album called 'Look to your heart' in 1968. 'Look to your heart' is certainly worth buying if you can find a copy of it on LP. However, it is pleasing to hear that this LP will be hopefully be released in the near future, along with a whole host of Perry's other over looked albums and popular songs. The release will be limited distribution, but is certainly worth looking out for! Superb listening! Matthew Long
