Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Eye Candy, the follow up to their debut, Lickin' on Both Sides, isn't as straightforward as it could be for Mis-Teeq. Their debut had the world at its feet--they were simultaneously the garage act with the most crossover appeal and the most credible pop act around; with their mixture of garage vocals and traditional R&B making them a very exciting package.

For Eye Candy, however, things are different. With the garage scene having lost some of its sparkle, and the Sugababes pushing them hard on the cool pop side, it's a tough time for the Mis-Teeq girls. Luckily they've kept Swedish producers extraordinaire Stargate on, plus with their trademark straight forward R&B and a hint of garage courtesy of Alesha's scattergun vocal style. "Scandalous" is a good example, with an evil-sounding bass line welded to the girls' sweetly sung vocals, as is the lively garage pop of "Dance Your Cares Away". This is a slightly more mature work than Lickin' was, though, with tracks such as "Can't Get it Back" showing a sophisticated side that's been missing until now, and recalls an on-form TLC. This is not a quantum leap forward by any means, more confirmation of their rightful place--at the centre of the UK R&B scene. --Chris Blenkarn

CD Description

'Eye Candy' is the second album from all girl UK Garage outfit Mis-Teeq. Taking the rough street sound of garage and mixing it with pop, R&B and reggae, the album sees the girls joined by US R&B star Joe, and Jamaican dancehall star Baby Cham. The single 'Scandalous' is also included.

3.0 out of 5 stars A few Mis-Takes but not a Mis-Step, 9 April 2003
By A Customer
First things First: 'Scandalous' achieves instant classic status and is easily one of the best singles released this year. 'Eye Candy' is a good R&B album, but that's all it is. Mis Teeq's debut, Lickin' on Both Sides, was a sassy, high-energy blitz of attitude, garage beats and pitch perfect pop. 'Eye Candy', however, features one too many drippy ballads that should have been relegated to someone far less exciting than Mis Teeq (like Ashanti or Mariah Carey). The album does have its moments, 'My Song', 'Can't Get it Back', 'Dance Your Cares Away', and 'Nitro' stand out as the album's most infectious tracks and make you realize what it is these girls do best. As for 'All in One Day', this catchy number walks the line precariously; it's almost a tounge-in-cheek bit of fun at the bling bling lifestyle's (and all its pretentions) expense, yet it is not quite smart enough to raise it above the level of, say, Puff Daddy. A good second album, but lacks the brazen fun of the first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your time, my time, hook line, LET'S RHYME!, 29 Mar 2003
Mis-teeq. A group synonymous with the Garage scene, highlighted by their winning numerous awards for best garage act in the last 18 months. But they're not. The garage beat has been restrained for the second album, but not at the expense of hi-energy tunes, 'Nitro', and 'Eye Candy' attest to that. It's just that, as with a lot of urban acts at the mo, they have ditched two-step for a more commercial, R&B sound. Lisa Maffia's new single is in the same vein, standing on an equal footing with the best the US has to offer, beats and harmonies alike.
The album is filled with amazing tunes, club bangers with HEAVY beats as well as ballads that put more established groups to shame with their originality and cohesiveness. The eastern flow of 'Just For You,' the sultry sound of 'Can't Get It Back', amazing Miami base sound from NOWHERE on 'Day Off,' to the simply gorgeous mellow tones of '...To Feel Like Love' show they were SO much more than a garage cash-in that single 'Why' might have suggested in 2001. THEN, their uniqueness is definitely provided by the ferocious chats of Alisha, keeping the underground feel alive on the dancehall-lite 'Do Me Like That,' catapaulting this album and Mis-teeq alike to diva status. They have carved out their own sound in a very competitive market, doing it good and proving they're much more than just eye candy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Second Album, 24 Mar 2003
By A Customer
The girls are back with a strong second album. Same style as 'Lickin..' but they seem more confident now, and with good reason too.

First track 'My Song' has a great bassline that is borrowed from Yarborough and Peoples - 'Don't Stop the Music' and is a downtempo groover. The first single Scandalous is wicked and if you like this then the whole album will appeal.

There are quite a lot of ragga-style vocals throughout that are the Mis-Teeq trademark, and they works very well.

This is the album to give the girls global success methinks.
