Amazon.co.uk Review
The seventh and final series of Deep Space Nine came down to loose ends, tying some existing ones together and allowing others to unravel. Symptomatic of the unwillingness to let DS9 go was the immediate arrival of a replacement Dax, though poor Nichole deBoer as Ezri Dax had to have known she'd already missed the boat. Her appearance encouraged last-minute romances to blossom, with Bashir finally getting some action, Odo finally getting together with Kira and Sisko finally proposing to Kassidy. Another contributing cute factor were numerous trips to the Holosuite wherein the all-knowing Vic Fontaine dished out philosophical advice. That was when the crew weren't in there to play baseball against the Vulcans or when Nog wasn't commiserating about the loss of a leg.

Oh yes, and don't forget the war! There was an early announcement that the show would attempt a 10-part resolution to the Dominion War, but viewers could be forgiven for forgetting all about it with so much sentimental distraction. When the horrors of war did resurface, they at least injected a few surprises into the mix. Odo and his ambiguously "evil" Founders were hit with a melting disease, prompting a backstabbing race for the power of developing and owning a cure. The original baddie Cardassians finally settled on the Federation's side.

Contrary to these interesting twists, however, were the unexpected turns taken by matters relating to Sisko's spiritual destiny. Suddenly the mystery of the wormhole and an entire religious belief system was reduced to the problem of translating correctly the words of a sacred book. The struggle to join with some evil aliens significantly diluted the attempt at resolving what had begun seven years before in the show's pilot episode. Ultimately, Sisko's destiny, as with all those who'd followed him to the open-ended climax, was to be decided elsewhere. In a move that was either bold and daring--or possibly born of desperation for not having thought things through properly--the show's storylines were to be continued in a series of spin-off books. --Paul Tonks

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Finish., 10 Sep 2004
By A J Taylor (Cambridge, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This purchase really has been the best DVD boxset I've bought, the series is the best Star Trek series going and this last season is high quality from start to finish. The last of the great story arcs are played out. What will happen to Kira, Odo, Dax, O'Brien, Bashir, Sisko, Du Kut, the Dominion War, the Klingons, the Romulans????

A must for all Star Trek fans, this series is compulsory viewing and the DVD boxset makes it easy to store and to watch, with useful handbooks and great interviews with the production crew and actors and actresses. There are also profiles of the sets, the non starfleet goodies and baddies, as well as an overview of each of the main crew.

If you haven't bought it already, do so soon, I watched the whole of Deep Space Nine from start to finish over the summer and I really recommend that as a way to see this show to see how characters, events and ideas are built up of the years to a thrilling conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars The last season, 15 Dec 2003
By M. Brants (Tilburg Netherlands) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In the 7th and final season everything comes together. Most story lines are resolved (Worf & Dax, Kira & Odo, Bashir & O’Brien, The Profits & The Pah-wraiths), but new ones are created (What will happen to Sisko, Kasidy & Jake)
All characters have a chance to shine in this season, even the so-called supporting actors (Dukat, Kai Winn, Nog, Garak).
I found the seventh season one of the best season, only just second after the amazing season 5. There is not a single weak episode.
The extras are fine too, with the last 3 crew dossiers (Sisko, Jake, Ezri), and 9 section 31 hidden files devoted to the supporting characters. The only thing I missed was a file on Garak. There was also a feature on the filming of the last scene and the farewall party, which was nice.
I was a little sad at the end of the last episode, but fortunately I now own the entire series on DVD, so I can watch it again and again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep Space Nine at its best, 3 Dec 2003

Deep Space Nine has been an amazing series and it all comes to a head in this series. The thrilling war with the Dominion makes for very exciting watching. I couldn't stop watching episode after episode of this series as it was so gripping. The great Vic Fontaine in the holosuite makes for swinging episodes. Odo's love for Kira causes a massive stir and the Cardassians support goes head over heels. The Emissary also has his final conflict!

Basically this series is probably one of the best as there is always something exciting going on as everything comes to end. It was just such a shame to get to the last episode as I wanted it to last forever. In my opinion it is worth it as it beats having copies on tape and there is some prestige in having a box set. I've never seen this cheaper anywhere else. It seems like a real steal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rather disappointing
After the exceptional successes made in seasons 3-6, season 7 was a disappointment for me. There seems to be nothing new to sustain the show at all,
