5.0 out of 5 stars Love Amid The Apocalypse, 26 May 2004
By Mohammad A. Rahman (Wolverhampton, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
An absolute gem of a movie! Starts off as a bland, late-80s style romantic drama (albeit a witty and well-acted one) before coming to a halt and suddenly morphing into a real-time countdown to nuclear annihilation. Excellent acting from Anthony Edwards (post-Top Gun but pre-ER) and Marie Winningham, who are very convincing as a pair of slightly oddball innocents who have found their ideal soulmate in each other, only to have their love affair brutally cut short. The synth-heavy soundtrack by Tangerine Dream is also great. Please, seek this little-known movie out - it's worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic 'Feel Bad' Movie, 24 Sep 2009
If you wanna take a break from the usual upbeat, happy endings that movies seem to offer these days, you need to view films like Miracle Mile.

Eighties bad hair, terrible clothes... yes.
Eighties Tangerine Dream electronic soundtrack... yes.
Eighties glossy MTV style filming... yes.

But...

Movies like this don't get made very often... if at all these days.
It's a classic 'What if?' scenario 'feel bad' movie.

What starts off as a friendly enough run of the mill cheesy eighties romance with Jazz musician Harry meeting his 'perfect girl', turns on you when he arrives late for their first date and intercepts a phone call from a military installation informing him that "we are locked in" and that in less than an hour, nuclear war will reduce the civilised world to ashes.

Harry is then faced with the task of tracking down the 'love of his life', convincing others of the impending armageddon, and somehow getting the hell out of there.

It makes you wonder how you'd react yourself if you were the only civilian who knew that nuclear holocaust was just an hour away.

If you want a belly laugh for all the right reasons, go watch some Laurel & Hardy.

This movie does NOT want to be your friend...
But will stay with you long after you've ejected the DVD.

Bonus Feature: Original Trailer.

Oh,... and Why ain't this ever been released on Region 2?

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible film, 16 Jan 2006
I am a huge fan of films of this genre and had actually been saving this film for a special occassion. Just watched it and what a dissapointment. Terrible acting with characters you wish would die from the start. I have never felt motivated until now to write an amazon review but this film left me so frustrated I felt I had to warn people off it.

It's a shame because the premise of the film has a great deal of scope but it just doesn't deliver and leaves you feeling frustrated and annoyed. The only redeeming feature is the 80s aspect of it. Just do yourself a favour - save your money and buy Dr Strangelove or one of the other many other great films of this type. 1 star (less if it was possible)
