This CD contains a diverse selection of music performed by the Burning Bush - a six person band. The songs come from all over Europe with Ashkenazi (Eastern European) and Sephardi (Southern European and North African) influences both well represented. The Ashkenazi music is mainly Klezmer in style, but there are also some slower tunes including a lullaby from the ghettos. The Sephardi music includes some early medieval pieces. All the music is superbly performed with a selection of traditional as well as modern instruments. Vocals are provided by Lucy Skeaping (whom Radio 3 listeners may be familiar with as a presenter) who has a light and delicate touch.

Altogether a very satisfying (and often foot-tapping) listening experience. If you are interested in Jewish music, Klezmer, or world music I would highly recommend this CD.
