Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
A classic example of obscure art house European cinema, Trouble Every Day is a sordid, shocking and often indecipherable examination of sexual depravity and violence. This is a deliberately difficult film--it is a full 15 minutes before anyone utters a line of dialogue--and director Claire Denis has created a world that offers the viewer little in the way of respite throughout the 90-minute duration. Both Vincent Gallo and Beatrice Dalle turn in their standard cult movie performances (long silences, staring into the distance) but in truth there are few actors so well suited to a piece of work such as this. Trouble Every Day is not for the casual viewer, suited more to real aficionados of the genre who are prepared to be challenged, shaken and more than a little appalled by every twist in the gruesome plot. --Phil Udell

4.0 out of 5 stars shockingly brilliant, 30 April 2003
By A Customer
This film is so brutally made you cannot help but be mesmirised by it. Some people may find it horrific, and some parts unnecessary. However i feel that it is those specific bits of the film which make it so good and eye opening.
This film is very good, and i would recommend it just as an eye-opener.

4.0 out of 5 stars You'll never give love bites the same way again............., 2 May 2003
Well if you think the 'Scream' trilogy are the best horror films of all time then I would'nt rush to see what this 'scandalous' and 'shocking horror film' (The Daily Mail review) is all about. Simply because it is'nt really a horror film. Horrific? Yes, but it seems more concerned with the tragedy of lovers who cannot consumate their relationships sexually because of the affliction that in the heat of passsion brings on some rather unsavory cannibalitic cravings. The casting is brilliant (Vincent Gallo & Beatrice Dalle as the two flesh eaters are perfectly cast) and the directer Claire Denis brings some touching moments to the film besides the building unease and the two shocking seduction/killing scenes.
The use of music is very inspired too with the score by Tindersticks (the theme tune is great) which soundtracks the films key moments. So if you're looking for something a little different and can take the premise, and love a downbeat ending too the I would consider 'Trouble Every Day' very worth the while. Love it or hate, it will stick in your mind for weeks....

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute and Terminal Boredom, 20 Jul 2003
By A Customer
possibly the most pointless, drawn out and plot-less film of all time. 95 mins of pure and total brain numbing boredom, almost no dialogue, certainly no story. Imagine a vampire film, where nothing happens for 90mins and then you get to see ONE vampire bite a person. And when i say nothing happens i mean totally nothing. people checking into hotel room is as interesting as it gets. pure and utter rubbish. this is in no way an arthouse film. the slowest and most tedius camerawork that i have ever seen. The enigmatic and flamboyant genius that is Vincent Gallo did not know what he was getting into when he signed up for this piece of drivel. A most pretentious and untalented voyeur to try and make something which is well beyond the creative talents of the people involved in this film. Whatever the actual idea was for this film and the mood that was trying to be conveyed, turns out to have missed the goal by the distance of another galaxy. Watch it. I shouldnt be the only one to suffer this nonsense.
