Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

New York band Longwave's debut UK album The Strangest Things is produced by wacky Flaming Lips bassist Dave Fridman and--surprisingly--they cite the emotional grandiosity of U2's Unforgettable Fire as an inspirational touchstone. The Strangest Things is the praiseworthy work of spiritual Brits, dislocated Anglophiles proffering designer noise for those who despair of seeing the baton of landscaped alternative-rock slipping from the increasingly greasy grasp of Six by Seven.

Big on pursed brows, angelic vocals, melodious solemnity, Joy Division basslines and Beaufort Scale-busting squalls of guitar FX pedal histrionics (it's almost as if "axe heroes" never went out of fashion) Longwave are at their most electromagnetic on the Idlewild-style blast of "Tidal Wave" and the arresting pop thrust of potential single "All Sewn Up". Worthy of even greater distinction is the poise and imperturbable burnish of "I Know It's Coming Someday", a persuasive pop tune that would simply fly out of High Street record retailers all over the land if it had "Coldplay" written on the label. --Kevin Maidment

4.0 out of 5 stars USA does it again!, 10 Mar 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Strangest Things (Audio CD)
Could it Liverpool 1980???. Bring out the long macs and the moody stares..although Longwave mix in a positive but not unwelcome american tinge to the experience.
Quality is the key here with a host of chiming soundscapes, humming FX pedals and a feeling that this band are on the cusp of greatness.Based in NY, this will probably slip by the casual listener but is another american message to the motherland "we can do indie/alt-rock too..maybe better than you now".

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Albumn, 4 May 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Strangest Things (Audio CD)
This albumn rocks!!! its not full of the same old heavy rock songs you hear these days but great melodic tunes. The music itself could be mistaken for some strokes songs e.g. pool song but the singing voice is much more tuneful and easy listening but thier music is very much thier own. The band do use effects on the guitars alot but this does not always work against them as most of the songs are great to listen to!! they deserve to be a bigger in britian!!! buy this albumn

5.0 out of 5 stars TRULY MAGNIFICENT, 10 Feb 2004

This is without a doubt one of the finest albums of 2003.
It is enriched with sparkling sharp guitars and wrenching harmonies. The album is a breathtaking suffocation, that'll leave you gasping for more. The first track "Wake Me When It's Over", is undoubtedly the anthem of 2003. An essential purchase that should not be shyed away from. Truly Magnificent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!!!!
Why aren't Longwave bigger in the U.K? This is a fantastic album, wonderful melodic indie rock that puts most new indie bands in the shade two years after its release. Read more
