Many critics expected Lisa Marie Presley's debut single to be nothing more than a fleeting novelty - after all, as the daughter of the most celebrated entertainer of the last 50 years, it could hardly have been difficult for her to clinch a record deal.
The big surprise is: Lisa Presley is actually talented. She has a strong, husky, smoky voice, and also demonstrates potential as a songwriter on this self-penned track. It is catchy pop-rock with a hint of country thrown in, and, lyrically, deals with Lisa's heritage ('someone turned the lights out there in Memphis/that's where my family's buried and gone).
Lisa will never be as popular, influential or groundbreaking as her father was (no one will, for that matter). But, from the sounds of this, she stands a pretty good chance of becoming a credible artist.

Miss Lisa Marie has not had the easiest of lives. With 2 famous failed marriages under her belt and constant press attention focussed on her just because she's the daughter of 'The King', the very idea that a late music career at a mature age of 35 was just absurd...how wrong the media was! 'Lights Out' is a fantastic debut single that nears on the talent and sound of the one and only Sheryl Crow. However Lisa's musical style is all her own. With fantastic lyrics and a voice to match, Miss Presley is a woman in her own right with this single and the album, 'To Whom It May Concern'. I for one am counting the days until the album's release as no other artist has convinced me, especially on a debut single, that the album is going to be just as good with a listen to only one song. Congratulations Miss Presley, we salute you!

Who cares? I absolutely LOVE this debut single from Lisa Marie Presley. It's so...different. Her voice, the music, the style. The lyrics are different too, very personal, which is like her album "To Whom It May Concern", which is also faaaaaab. Pick it up!
