5.0 out of 5 stars Oldie but Goodie, 21 Sep 2004
By Mr E (Leicester United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I was very young when the Goodies were first shown and it was a special privelege to stay up and watch them. After I bought the DVD I felt like a kid again and laughed along to their silly antics. My laughter only drowned out by my six year old son who has found it as funny as I did.
It's comedy that appeals to all ages. It may look a little dated now but was well ahead of it's time when it was released.
It's amazing to think how much must have been spent on each episode (which ultimately was why it was axed) as some of the sets are impressive even now.

The BBC need to release more of these episodes. I for one would buy them

5.0 out of 5 stars The Goodies, 11 Jan 2005
By PD (Wiltshire) - See all my reviews
1970s humour at its best. Do not try to compare this with Monty Python - this should tickle a completely different part of you! If you remember the 1970s (and the Goodies) you must enjoy this, as there is a strong element of nostalgia - from the furniture to the social topics (disco, kung fu, etc). However, there is more to it than that - I still think it is genuinely funny. Personally I think that Graeme Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Bill Oddie are exceptionally talented and deserve much more recognition for this masterpiece that they produced. There is a wide range of humour in these programmes and they should appeal to a wide range of ages. Buy this double dvd and see what you think. Consider the "special effects" - they are clever, original and amusing at the same time. Why is this programme not repeated on television? And even better, there is commentary on three of the episodes by the three Goodies. Just hearing the three of them together again makes this dvd special. I have enjoyed the things they have done since leaving the Goodies (especially the brilliant I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue") but to people who were young in the 1970s these three performers will always be The Goodies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A seventies comedy classic, 16 May 2003
By S. Connor "octoberfox" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This new dvd version looks better now than when the episodes were originally broadcast back in the seventies. The grainy 16mm film look has been replaced with crystal clear computer enhanced sequences. "The Goodies And The Beanstalk" also pays homeage to Alfred Hitchcock and the Marx Brothers as well as It's A Knockout with Eddie Waring.
There are sight gags by the bucketload too. The first time the trio mount the trandem is a treasure. And when they volunteer to do some light housekeeping they end up lighthouse keeping.
There's over 4 hours of top class comedy on this package including some out takes where Tim fluffs his lines and Bill has trouble with an old 78 rpm record.
If you enjoyed The Goodies first time round you'll really enjoy this dvd collection. Hopefully they'll release a few more episodes soon.
