Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Hamtaro and friends are back in an even cuddlier adventure than before, this time for the GBA. Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak is a ridiculously cute, deceptively simple-looking adventure game. But don't be fooled--just like its predecessor, Heartbreak is a very challenging and fun game with surprising depth. Kids will love it, and adults will get a kick out of some of the subtle jokes.

The story is simple, but epic: Hamtaro and his friend Bijou must save love itself. An evil hamster named Spat is causing squabbles between hamsters, and it's up to Hamtaro and Bijou to mend broken relationships and find out why Spat is causing so much trouble.

The key to Ham-Ham Heartbreak is the effective use of Ham-Chat (a secret hamster language). Each Ham-Chat word represents an action. For example "stickie" enables you to whack a bush with a stick, and "putput" allows you to put something on something else. You'll need to learn certain words to solve different challenges in the game.

The gameplay is very similar to the Game Boy Color's Ham-Hams Unite, but the graphics and sound are definitely better. The game looks just like the cartoon show. There are now 24 Ham-Hams to meet instead of 12, and the world is bigger. Strangely, the Clubhouse is smaller.

Just like in the first game, there are all kinds of activities. You can buy different outfits and take up to 8 pictures. You can go to the dance room in the Clubhouse and compose a Ham-Jam, where you connect your Ham-Ham words into a dance (you can trade this dance with other people via a GBA link cable). A feature new to Ham-Ham Heartbreak is the one that allows you to collect rocks and get them polished. Who knows what secrets are inside the rocks you'll find?

Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak is a cute game that is truly suitable for all ages. Just don't let your boss catch you playing it. --Bryan Karsh

5.0 out of 5 stars The cuddliest, cutest and most adorable game on the GBA, 31 Aug 2003
By A Customer
This is one of the best games I have played, it's suitable for all ages. You control Hamtaro and he and Bijou have to adventure round all the different areas learning all the Ham chat words to put in the Ham dictionary whilst at the same time restoring all the loves that the evil ham Spat has broken. The best thing about this game is that even after you've completed the main objectives (which will take quite a few hours of gameplay) there's still tons more fun to have. When you've learned all the Ham chat and restored all the loves you can get a special key which unlocks even more places to explore. Ham and Bijou can also turn rocks into jewelry to make accesories with, buy ouftits and have their picture taken, make up little dances, and they can go to the funfair and go on all the rides, eat popcorn and play minigames. There's so much to do in this game that it will definately keep you entertained for a long time.
This is an excellent game which you've got to buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ham Ham Heartbreak, 1 Jul 2003
By A Customer
Any cartoon games in the past have always been terrible, no matter what console they appear on but the makers of this one seemed to have realised that terrible doesn't sell. Saying this though the last hamtaro game was good too. Basically, there is a new ham ham, and he's up to no good. You have to piece together the broken friendships of the ham hams and restore peace to the ham ham clubhouse. Along your way you'll find lots of new Ham-chat, get to dance to ham-jam dances and visit the clubhouse photo booth. This game is ideal for younger players and older players will enjoy it a lot more than they would expect. On the whole a good game but maybe not everyone's cup of tea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hamtaro's back ! And he's ready for action!, 20 Aug 2003
Hamtaro's back in style with the launch of his new game;Ham Ham Heartbreak. Its loads like the first game;Ham Hams Unite ,but its way better.I have only unlocked 4 locations though since it's quite a tough game:clubhouse, sunny peak, sandy bay and funland. The graphics are excelent since its on a gameboy advance and there's more ham hams than ever before! Basically, there's a evil hamster on the lose wearing a devils costume called Spat.He has broken up the hearts of hamtaro's fellow ham hams. Now its up to Hamtaro and his girlfreind Bijou to save their friends hearts from total heartbreak. Their not in it alone though, they have Boss , Snoozer and Harmony, the angelic hamster to help them out. This game is excellent, except strangely the clubhouse is smaller than in the last game. This game is truly suitable for all ages.
