Amazon.co.uk Review

Twenty-three-year-old soulstress Terri Walker may be London born and Regensburg, Germany raised, but her debut album, Untitled, leaves little doubt that she's the natural successor to US nu-soul divas Jill Scott and Angie Stone. Far removed from the clever beats and big-name producers that mark most fashion-conscious hopefuls, her brand of R&B luxuriates in honey-sweet harmonies and deep smouldering grooves. To handclaps and a human beat box, "Love Fool" issues a sunny sway and asserts that she's not short of all-woman attitude, a fact confirmed by the similarly sassy dismissal of past boyfriends, "Drawing Board". Meanwhile, the vintage soul struts of "What Will I Do" and "Love You for Life" brim with endearing vulnerability. But it's when she turns on her coy charm and cuts her rootsy hip-hop with slinky jazz that Untitled earns its place next to the debuts from Philadelphia's current heroines. All woozy keyboards, scatting melodies and drunkenly slurring horns, "Guess You Didn't Love Me" and "Dirty Weekend"'s hot, close smooches are near to the dictionary definition of sultry as anyone's likely to get. --Dan Gennoe

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll give it a title - Fantastic, 22 Dec 2003
By V. Ryan (London Uk) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Terri Walker... What a singer.
I went to see her perform at London's Forum. She was fantastic.
She did most of the tracks of this great great album.
Its very frustrating that she isn't more appreiciated. Much like the way Beverley Knight has been overlooked.

Track 1
Love Fool
Great opening. You'll have this in your head for a while after hearing this. Its great, its an introduction to the superb Terri Walker

Track 2
Drawing Board
This should have been a bigger hit that it was. Its catchy, quite poppy, so why didn't it become a success? I mean this girl can actually sing...The mind boggles. Its A great tune

Track 3
Guess You Didn't Love Me (Feat Mos Def)
A cool slice of RnB. Another one which should have been a big hit especially with Mos Def lending his rapping skills. Its a great track, one of the album's best.

Track 4
Its All Good
She didn't do this at the gig. To Be honest its not one of the great songs on the album. Its just under 2 minutes also, so a bit of a filler.

Track 5
Ching Ching (I'll be lovin you still)
Its the one.
Oh yeh Terri now this is the track which totally blows your mind. Its not only catchy, but its witten really well. Its just a track of the highest order.

Track 6
Fake
Shows a more emotional side here. Don't like fake people? This is the track for you. Shows a different side to her vocal ability. And even better side.
Has a real old school feel about it.

Track 7
What Will I Do (feat Blueblood)
My favourtie track on the album.
Its a slow jam duet. Its beautiful, emotional and simply excellent. I love it

Track 8
Love You For Life
Another slow jam, but not a great track. Its good, but not of the standered that the rest of the album sets.

Track 9
Deutschland
As she grew up in Germany she does an interlude track in German. Its great! Pity it only goes on for just over a minute as its funky and chilled.

Track 10
Dirty Weekend
Her best live performance at the gig. It sounds just as good on Cd. Its a real soul tune. She really shows her feminine side. And her dirty side!! Dirty Weekend baby

Track 11
4 feet
Its as catchy as your going to get. Once again she really shows her woman status in a really angry and powerful way.
Vocally she is second to none.

Track 12
Da Business
And this is what this track is. Just magnificant. Got a jazz feel to it. Terri Walker at her best.

Track 13
For Life (Reprise)
another interlude and a reprise of the track Love you for life.

Track 14
Brand New Day
Best Track on the album? Quite Possibly. Its the most upbeat track i the album. Bit a of a garage feel about it.
But its superb.... Its more excellence.

Overall
Not often will I recommend an artist so highly, but Terri Walker is such a talent. Such a Talent.
Please buy this album. You will not be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last another talented female British artist!, 15 Mar 2003
Having loved Terri's first two singles, 'Drawing Board' and 'Guess you didn't love me,' I decided to give her 'Untitled' album a try. I did not expect this album to replace my favourite Maxwell cd, but it has!

On first listening to this album, I was immeditaely taken back by how strong her voice is. 'Love Fool,' the first song on the cd, is my favorite as its funky, fresh and soulful. Other stand out tracks include 'It's All Good,' 'Dirty Weekend,' and 'Fake.'
The song 'Deutschland' is in German as she lived there for a few years and this makes the song very original.

Terri Walker, who I would describe as a British Mary J Blige, with a good, powerful ranged soul voice, and funky musical arrangements, should indeed go all the way to becoming a hugely successful artist. Buy this album if you're into Beverly Knight, Musiq, D'angelo and Jill Scott. Support this great FEMALE BRITISH r'n'b artist and ensure she is a success!

5.0 out of 5 stars A rival to Beverley knight?, 27 April 2003
By A Customer
Her album was one recommended to me due to past buys. After looking at the reviews she had received, I decided to give it a try. A bit risky perhaps, seeing as I had not heard any of the songs. But it has really surprised me.

Terri Walker is a fantastic new artist. She has a great voice and she is not afraid to try different things, as this album shows. She has deinitely produced a top quailty soul album. There really isn't a song which I do not like. I don't want to go on about why I like each and every one, so all I will say is that the songs which stand out particularly are "Guess you didn't love me", "Ching Ching" and "Love you for life".

Up until now, my favourite British female artist was Beverley Knight, but I think that Terri Walker has shown that she is in Knight's league too.
If you like music by Knight, India Arie, Angie Stone or Ashanti, give Terri Walker a try. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
