The opening screen has just two buttons--Exam Questions and Revision Notes--and clicking either takes you to the next menu where you can choose either A2 or AS, depending on which part of the course you're studying. Click the AS button for example and you're taken to the three main headings--mechanics, pure maths and statistics. Clicking on one of these opens the subject list which you can work through chronologically by clicking on the title, or scroll through with the mouse, picking out particular subject areas that you want to brush up on. The text that supports and explains each subject is brief, often expressed as a series of bullet points, which is exactly the right approach when you're revising something. There are plenty of supporting diagrams and examples to illustrate the finer points of, for example, velocity and acceleration and the navigation buttons at the bottom make it easy to find your way around. If you want to jump back up to the previous level at any time, you simply click anywhere on the screen with the right mouse button. You can print out sections of the revision notes or search for a particular word by clicking the magnifying glass icon.

The exam papers are a cross section of genuine questions set by different examining boards over the last few years and as such, are extremely useful to practice on. The best way to "sit" them is to print out the question and then write the answer in the space provided. When you've finished, go back to the program and click the "eye" button and you'll see the examiner's answer.

The program authors point out that "While every effort has been made to place each topic in its appropriate AS or A2 category, different boards have, on occasions, placed topics in different modules and year groups". In other words, if you can't find something where you expect it to be, use the search tool and you'll probably find it.

The use of multimedia is a bit disappointing, but elsewhere there's evidence of considerable care and, most particularly, focus on providing an efficient aid to revision. The program also provides some good exam practice for those who need to know the difference between their centre of gravity and their centre of mass. --Rob Beattie
