Forget Ramazzotti and Pausini, this is absolutely the best Italian singer and composer of the times. Imagine to mix up Tom Waits's rough lyrics with a bit of Nick Cave's most melancholy rhythms, along with multiple musical influences from Cabo Verde's morna to gypsy melodies and pure jazz.... and you won't have an inch of what Capossela is!!! Both a great poet and a great songwriter, too big for this world ...
This collection is a good selection indeed, even though it doen't follow strictly a chronological order. Although, if you have to star with something, this is a really nice start indeed!
You begin with "Si � spento il sole" a cover from a classic Italian song from the '60s by Adriano Celentano (in Capossela's country-looping style) and then you go to "pearls" such as "Morna", or "Vai via" or the frenzy "Il Ballo di San Vito", inspired by the Italian "pizzicata" (a popular tune of Southern Italy based on an incredibly involving rhythm); but you have also "Con una Rosa" , a poem in music in which Capossela put all of his melancholic fantasy up to "Che coss'� l'amor", one of the songs which best defines what Capossela is: love, melancholy, sense of loss, solitude and ....wine.
I'm not sure about it, but probably the Imported version will also include translations of his lyrics, so that you will taste a bit of what Capossela's poetic Italian is...
