5.0 out of 5 stars It Ain't Over , Not By A Long Shot!, 16 Jul 2003
By Karim Makalai "blues and rock nut" (BC Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Paul Carrack is the most underrated pop musician I have heard. He is not well known in North America. I have had to import every album.

I have bought every solo album of his and this is the best since "Blue Views". The song writing is above exemplary. While the lyrics are somewhat pedestrian, the music and production simply excel. He uses wonderful hooks in a mix of ballads, 60's and 70's style R&B, contemporary rock, and jazz elements.

There is not a bad track in the album, but the best has to be "Where Did I Go Wrong". Perfect use of rhythm guitars, saxophone and percussion elements will have you bopping up and down in your car. And take note, this is a great "cruisin'" CD.

"Empty Space" has a wonderful reggae/R&B feel to it. What soul!
"One Small Step" has a strong gospel and yet orchestral feel, for a love song. The lyrics in this song are a little shmaltzy, but still very accessible. The strings gave me goose bumps!

When you go into "Forever", if you're not singing at the top of your voice, you're not human. "Never Too Late" is funky, and very danceable.

The other tracks are also wonderful, but these were the highlights for me. Paul's voice and soulful singing are a treasure. I envy you luck Brits who can see him live just about anytime!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Risk Rewarded!, 18 Aug 2003
By Kevin Stone (Bristol UK) - See all my reviews
One of those albums you buy on the strength of a chance hearing on an unfamilar radio station. Well it was for me anyway. For a committed R&B/Soul/Jazz listener, I was naturally wary of the 'middle of the road' credentials of Paul Carrack but the impressive single 'Where did it all go wrong?' was so strong I had to chance it. Wow! for once no regrets. A soulful selection that merits turning the stereo up, closing your eyes and soaking up the talent. Go on indulge yourself with some truly decent sounds. I'm now checking out this man's past work with a vengance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Carrack Classic, 25 Nov 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: It Ain't Over (Audio CD)
I don't know how he does it, but Paul Carrack's latest release here is indeed a 'classic'! Each track is a delight- each solo album this man releases never disappoints and this is no exception. Even if you are not a Carrack fan, buy this album and hear a soulful singer and fine musician, and just enjoy!
Pure magic.
