5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic opera singing and conducting, 4 July 2009
By Silvio Battaglia - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I must agree with the others: this recording is an absolute must have.
Feraldi sings in such a way which you'd hardly hear again: her capabilities to stress the coloratura parts and then to turn into dramatic singing is almost unmbeleievable. Rogatchewsky is a great tenor too: his voice has a very beautiful colour, not so light and brilliant as one would imagine, he sings with meaning and umpeccable thecnique the mezzavoce and pianissimi and then he is able to let his voice ring widely and manly... One of the best possible tenors for this part. I must say I haven't had the chance of earing the very first recording (conducted by Busser in the early twenties), so I can't say if this is the absolute reference as to the style of singing and of directing. All I can say is that the Orchestra is deeply cometted and the director does a great job, the baritone is as manly and aristocratic as a Lescot would deserv...
I warmly reccomend this.
