Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Pride FC pits the top fighters in the world from several different combative sports--including wrestling, karate, judo, kick-boxing, and others--into one ring under the same rules. The philosophy of Pride, known as ValeTudo, is the acceptance of any technique of any school of combat. Pride is the survival of the strongest. Not the strongest in a specific genre, but the strongest of all combative sports, period.

Pride FC is the most realistic "No Holds Barred" fighting game for the PS2. Fighters are accurately recreated in amazing detail with appearance, likeness, fighting style, movements and signature ring entrances. Various combat elements including multiple fighting positions, unique fighting styles, hundreds of moves, counters and reversals capture the intensity and authenticity of a Pride contest. With a TV-style presentation, each match-up comes to life in fully scaled arenas complete with ring announcers, lighting, pyrotechnics and realistic camera angles.

3.0 out of 5 stars K.O!, 1 Feb 2004
The first time I heard about this game was when I played a demo disc with this on. I thought it was rather entertaining. So I went on the net to find out about it. By some of the websites it was rated the most realistic fighting game of the year. So naturally I went out and bought it. When I got home I was raring to start of a Grand Prix of fighting so I picked my favourite character 'Gary Goodridge' and fought on. As expected it was a pretty realistic fighting game even when you got the guy on the floor. And so I easily battled through and completed that. Unfortunately I easily got board of that mode and moved on to survival mode. This was entertaining and after about 25 rounds I had completed that to. A let down with this game is the fact that the controls are really chunky and unless you know the combos the fighting is pretty slow going. The bloods hardly realistic but its still fun every now and again to get the guy on the floor and beat the life out of him while the blood platters everywhere. After I had played this game for about an hour I was pretty disappointed with how this game was structured. It didn't prove all that long and to be honest there were no unlockables at all. The thing that makes this game good though is the create a character mode, where you can create your character and his moves. These moves can be connected together perfectly making your character a killing machine with knock out moves that would scare even the best of boxing champs. I probably spent about 2 hours alone just creating my character perfectly to fit any situation. When I tried him out he fought like a beast and now I never lose a battle. The real fun is playing with a mate where you can battle out with your created characters to the end. This is where all the moves and combos go. And an easily won match can soon turn around as your opponent smacks you to the floor. Shortage of game play and lack of unlockables let the game down a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game but could be improved. . ., 13 April 2003

First the games controls, they are similar to other games with a right kick & left kick done with X and Circle and the punches with Triangle and Square buttons, Pressing one of the two punch with one of the kick buttons produces a grapple move which can be linked into another move. The first and most important missed opportunity lies in the execution of the grapples. In other games, pressing different directions on the digital pad results in different kinds of moves, in Pride FC only your position determines the manoeuvre, not the command you input in your controller. And while some will argue that that's how real fighting is, I'm inclined to disagree. But the game has so many positions to start grappling from it almost overcomes this problem.

Second, The Create a fighter mode is no Smackdown, But it's the fighters appearance customisation that lets it down by not having as much stuff as the WWF games have had previously, meanwhile the characters moves editor is really worth buying the game for!!! it really is all that you would want from a no holds barred fighting game!

the graphics are not all that special but there are enough blood splatters to keep anyone happy (although the blood effects look like polka dots rather than haemoglobin.)

This game is a real Gem and is the best of its type so if you like Wrestling or cage fighting or just the chance to pummel something into the ground then BUY IT !

this game is a must for all ufc and pride fans the best feature is the create your own fighter, and as a multiplayer game its great only negative is the lack of any career mode.
