The definative snooker game, result!, 1 Oct 2003
Being a keen snooker fan myself I was excited to see this game was being released. I had played the previous titles and enjoyed them a lot, and this promised to be an improvement. I was not let down. I wont go on too much about the mini-games as I never play them, but the 8-ball and 9-ball pool options are welcome additions. The career mode is where it's at though, play through season after season, in a number of various tournaments including the Embassy World Championship, trying to get to that elusive number one ranking in the world. The look and feel of the game is good, get too engrossed and you may actually think you're really playing the deciding frame in the crucible for the World Championship! On the downside though, the player animations could do with some improvement and the some of the camera angles are questionable as I often find I need to go into 'birds eye view' to see how my shot does. These are minor hiccups though, nothing to whinge about too much. The players are there, though there is a lack of some of the real top 16, the O'Sullivan's, Doherty's, Ebdon's, Williams', Higgins', Hendry's and co are there. The create-a-player mode is good and another useful addition in this game is the opportunity to buy new clothes, cues, tables and unlock new venues with your prize money. In conclusion, if you're a die-hard snooker fan, or even if you just have a passing interest in the game, I would recommend this game to you. It is not the 'perfect' snooker game yet, but playing this you get the feeling that it's not too far off. Roll on WCS2004!!
