5.0 out of 5 stars The Darkness, the best thing to happen to Rock for 20 years!, 4 Mar 2003
Rock has been up it's own backside for so long now that it's not surprising there's nothing in the charts but boy or girl bands and boy or girl solo artists.
The Darkness have come to end all that!!!!!!!!!!!
With a sound that's been described as AC/DC meets Thin Lizzy, but with a singer who's half Freddie Mercury, half Pavarotti; this is a band who have been accused of "extracting the urine" but who, in fact, are serious about their music but who are also the most fun and entertaining act I've ever seen live.
This is The Darkness' 1st true single after last years "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" EP and it's loud, raucous, funny and wickedly irreverent. On it you will find the proper version of the song, plus a "CLEAN" version where the phrases MOTHERFATHER and COCONUT replace the original words which I'm sure your imagination can provide.
After seeing this song performed live while supporting Def Leppard on their UK tour, I can't wait to seeit, and allthe other future classics done again on The Darkness' headlining tour atthe end of March, beginning of April. So buy the single, listen to it, smile, laugh, enjoy it, and I'll see at the Mean Fiddler on 2nd April (I'll be the Big one at the front with a big sillt grin on my fat face)
The future is bright, the future is dressed in a Leotard, with a low slung guitar, a perfect falsetto and the biggest balls of steel since 1975.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow what a single, can't wait for the album, 4 Mar 2003

Well what can I say, I never heard of this band until I went to see Def Leppard at Brixton (27/02/03)and they were a on the bill.

I was amazed and impressed by the pure greatness that came from the live perfomance, reminded me so much of the early days of Queen and not just the outfit (see the cover for the single).

The following day after the concert I just had to get the single and was blown away at how great a single it is.

come on guys buy this single and help this new band make it big and lets not kill off another British rock band.

BUT, BUY, BUY !!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you believe in a thing called DARKNESS?, 25 Feb 2003
For the uninitiated, the Darkness rock. OK? That's not rock as in pseudo-intellectual, face-like-an-old-welly look-how-many-f-holes-my-guitar-has kind of rock, or rock as in godawful-social-conscience-we-are-the-world-smell-the-cheese rock. This is RAWK - replete with 'W' and the very best kind there is. This is fun.

The Darkness comprise of brothers Justin Hawkins (vocals, guitar and flame tattoos rising from his midriff), his brother Dan (guitars), Frankie Poullain (bass and moustache) and Ed Graham (drums). They make a racket. Justin sings, most of the time, in falsetto, like he's done himself a mischief with a pair of leather pants and an electric eel. The guitars crunch, roar and chuddar like a juggernaut having been cut-up by a mini metro and it's MAD about it. They are the most ludicrous bits from Queen, AC/DC, Status Quo, Spinal Tap, The Pixies and Bon Jovi all rolled into one very, very messy ball of gloop and thrown violently at the ceiling of mediocre, grey, lumpy 'rock' music. RAWK indeed.

This single could well be their first hit, having been playlisted on Radio 1 and XFM, among others. Justin sings "Get Your Hands Off My Woman, Muthaf*cker". Track three is exactly the same, except he sings "Mother Hubbard", or "Mubba Bubba", or "Muffa Fuhba" instead. What genius – you could make a guessing game of it. The middle track, "The Best of Me", is Status Quo with Brian May instead of Rick Parfit and Angus Young instead of Francis Rossi. It’s disarray, but a glorious one.

After listening to this from start to finish, you will need a lie down. Then you'll want to play it again. Excuse me; I need to find a cold flannel and slap it on my face.
