Not bad but was expecting a lot more. Hardly 'future' at all - nothing groundbreaking. If you're into nu-jazz / broken beat look in other places first for something a little more important with definition. These tracks aren't doing anything too revolutionary in the least.

Germanies nu jazz dance orientaded label Compost has been a favourite of mine over the last few years and the Future sound of jazz series have been a breath of fresh air, for those who don't take there jazz to seriously and want a more diverse journey to merge with contempory dance floor grooves. I found the earlier Future sounds an excellent insite to electronica jazz.Future Sounds 8 was a dissapointment to me as it verged more on to the drum and base sector, For the 9th instalment of this series, compiler Michael Ridpath seems to have strayed even further away from the jazzy flavours of previous albums , to bring an interesting dance collection.Hird,s Keep your Kimi is my favourite track a crystal clear mid tempoe vocal jazzy sound featuring the velvet vocals of Japanese Yukimi Nagano who helped to power Koops Waltz for album to it's critically acclaimed status, this track alone with a couple of others keeps the future jazz title .Season's cut is mid tempoed grooves of broken beats to soulful house featuring a guy called Ernesto who sounds similar to Viktor Duplaix,Stateless,s powerfull Leave me know is a compulsive dance floor belter led by female vocalists with a tricky backing latin track, Scotland's Joseph Malik has an interesting remix of futuristica and Triplanes keep the groove with a slight P funk electronic number with heavy percussions and bass lines. Dntel's anywhere is a haunting electro pop style vocal number more like Clannad.Monasa , Julias Kammerl and Savath & Savalas are more mellower electro moodier instrumentals assosciated with the sound fans of earlier Future Sounds would prefer. Generally Compost have compiled a collection which feature more vocals a variety of predominantly mainstream dance floor numbers and generally not a bad collection. But unfortunately the elements of jazz seem to be absent from most of this collection.

I've been impressed with Germany's left field jazzy club orientaded label Compost's releases since listening to some of the earlier Future Sound Of Jazz collections, which have been in a more chilled elctronica jazz to nu jazz with breaks and rhythms field, howeverI found Future Sound of Jazz 8 a dissapointment in more of a drum and base direction. For volume 9 , Michael Reinboth has compiled a chequered collection of dance predominantly veering to other areas of dance .Hirds's opening track is the collections premiere track featuring the satin vocals of Japanese Yukimi Nagano who sang on Koop's Waltz For album and I found this track the perfect insite in to future jazz;an electro cool backing tracks mid tempoed chilled and excellent vocals, the rest of the set is more diverse with soulful house sounds of Season , the gyrating latin backing beats and rhytms of Stateless, Glasgows finest Joseph Malek's mix of Futuristica is interesting, even Triplane's techno drum and base mid tempoe number grew on me. Kowalaski and Yellowtail's tracks I found drum and base break and technoe orientated disasters ! Dntel's track is laid back and haunting more electro pop sort of Clanad vocals and New Order backing track but it works , there's even a couple of electronic jazzy down beats for those like me that preferred the earlier FSJ collections and ,at least to try and salvage the title of jazz in Julius Kammerl , Monassa and the beauty of Savath and Savalas almost sounds like The Cinematic Orchestra.All in all Compost records have not dissapointed with this collection , only problem is the 85% lack of any jazzy ingredients !! I think this one should simply be titled Future Sonds Of Dance.
