Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Maid in Manhattan, the soundtrack, aims straight for the territory established by modern romantic comedy albums with an anthology of songs that wouldn't be out of place in Bridget Jones's CD collection. The disc concludes with two cuts from Alan (The Mexican (2001)) Silvestri's score, the title theme offering an attractive Latin groove in honour of Jennifer Lopez titular character and "At Last" providing the requisite romantic ending. Before these are a dozen songs, the Nile Rodgers/Bernard Edwards funk-liberation anthem "I'm Coming Out" providing the movie's theme in both vintage Diana Ross and new Amerie flavours. Elsewhere old and new rub shoulders too as the Pointer Sisters' funky 1973 hit "Yes We Can" contrasts with RES' drive-time melancholy "Miracles", Teena Marie's 1984 bubble-gum pop "Lovergirl" balances Norah Jones' sultry folk ballad "Come Away with Me" and Glenn Lewis Latin sentiments, "Fall Again", provide a glossy alternative to Paul Simon's "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard". Meanwhile Eva Cassidy contributes a beautifully spare cover of Simon's "Kathy's Song" and Bread pay live homage to "The Guitar Man". Covering all bases this decade-spanning set is sure to earn a place in the charts to match the hit movie's box-office success. --Gary S Dalkin

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful cd, 19 Dec 2003
I enjoyed the film very much. The music helped to make the film a hit in my eyes. The CD is great. A great mixture of sound.
It's fab to be taken back to the days of Teena Marie (Lovergirl) & to be introduced to Glenn Lewis with Fall again.
A real feel good CD & if you enjoyed the film then the CD is a must buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maid in Manhattan, 19 Mar 2003
By Sarah Ashworth (Northwich, Cheshire) - See all my reviews
I saw the film last weekend with my friend Emma and we both loved it - big fans of romantic comedys! I loved the feel good song "I'm Coming Out" that featured in the film so I had a look on amazon to see the other tracks listed. I love the Norah Jones track, "Come Away with me" and the recent no.1 Daniel Beddingfield smash, "If you're not the one" so decided to order it. It arrived yesterday and I was listening to it all last night. I especially like the Paul Simon track, "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard! The album is a great easy listening album and would sit quite nicely in your collection!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mellow, Soulful and Romantic, 10 Mar 2003

This review is from: Maid in Manhattan (Audio CD)
Maid in Manhattan's soundtrack is a wonderful mixture of old, new and revamped songs.

The album is really a romantic's delight with songs by Norah Jones, Daniel Bedingfield and Eva Cassidy.

Buy it for Kelly Rowland's 'Train on a Track', RES' revamp of 'Miracles' and Glenn Lewis' 'Fall again'.

Amerie's 'I'm coming out' pays fitting homage to the supreme Diva, Diana Ross, whose version of the song is also included on the soundtrack. You can really dance to both.

The other tracks are really good for a walk down the 70's and 80's memory lanes or just an introduction to the sounds of Bread, Paul Simon, Teena Marie and the Pointer Sisters.

The additions from Alan Silvestri's score are lovely.

Altogether the soundtrack is a great buy and guaranteed to both liven and relax you.

The CD is well-produced but one very important song on the soundtrack is omitted. This is the track called "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones. Read more
