Los Van Van have been around for decades at the top of Cuban music, and have lived and grown with it. Inevitably, musical director Juan Formell has seen band members come and go, but the line up here has truly charismatics figures such as Mayito Rivera. Music in Cuba is moving away from more 'salsa' based music to reggaeton etc now, but this is from an era around the peak of the more 'salsa' based. It's not the hard and aggressive timba of bands like Charanga Havanera, or even the more rhythmically challenging music of bands like Bamboleo, but it's definitely music to get up and dance to (and if you're not dancing then you'l be knocking back the rum-and down on the Malecon you'll be drinking that straight, not diluted in Mojitos!). Charismatic singers, virtuoso musicians who keep dancing, fun and entertainment to the forefront.

In the land where there are so many great musicians, bands and orchestra's there is only group Cubans hold above all others. Los Van Van, led by the genuis of Juan Formell. Juan is credited for creating the Timba sound and in 'en la malecon de la Habana' you will hear Timba at its very best.

This is not the romantic Son ballards of the Buena Vista Social Club, this is hard hitting jazz trumpets, trombones and piano all competing and there is not one track on this which is a filler.

If you have ever seen Los VAn Van live you will know how fantastic they are and this CD gives you an authentic feel of them and the music scene now in Cuba.
