Synopsis

Billed as "the ultimate parody of anime," EXCEL SAGA certainly goes out of its way to parody every convention of the genre it can. From the cloying J-pop opening, it's clear that this series' sole aim is to be a good-natured farce, one that revolves around a main character who, on the surface is not much different from any other anime heroine. However, the key difference between Excel and all those who preceded her is that Excel is completely and utterly insane and considers it her goal to to conquer the city of F. In these final episodes, Excel must fight for her lives as the Puchuu goes on a rampage and ACROSS makes its move.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excel Saga = Greatest Anime EVER., 28 Mar 2004
By M. Boon "versionone2k3" (Wales, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

The 6th and finale volume of Excel Saga is probably the best of the series and thats saying alot based on the calibre of the series so far (okay Vol. 3 was below par imo), all the usual charcters and sillyness is here and episode 26 "Going Way To Far" does just that and will probably offend a lot of people out there (especially offensive to some will be that pervert who made the androids) but behind all the gags, spoofs and dumbness there is actually some great messages about love and the foolishness of World conquest and at times it can almost be taken serious which is what makes Excel Saga so brilliant.

Personally I dont count ep26 as the final episode but it is of course a great and fitting ending to such an OTT series but I actually consider ep25 as the true finale but thats just My own personal opinion.

In the end Excel Saga may be more then the greatest Anime ever it may be one of the greatest TV series's ever PERIOD.

5.0 out of 5 stars The End of the Madness, 18 Mar 2004

Its Excel Saga, but not as you know it! Eps 22-25 end the series in style - you've actually got the events of the past episodes all concluded, and it almost makes sense!
See what happens to That Man, Pedro, Excel, Hyatt and Ilpalazzo in this fantastic end to my favourite anime series.

Wonderful stuff. Oh, and episode 26, the "Going too far" episode is not for the feint hearted! Lots of naked females (and yes, with no censorship, so dont watch it around kids!), even more blood than ever before, and a nice twist on the ending song too.

If you're 15+, and love your anime wierd and whacked out, you must buy this... although it helps a lot if you've seen the previous volumes too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The insanity ends at last, 11 Jun 2007
By T. R. Alexander (East Anglia, UK) - See all my reviews

The maddest thing I have seen on TV finally reaches its explosive finally with the concluding four episodes of the series and the extra final episode, the infamous "Going to Far", that was never aired on the shows original run. With massive Puchuu warships, post-apocalyptic wastelands and at last something that approaches an actual plot the Excel Saga has a brilliant ending as entertaining as it is insane. If you are easily offended then I would advise against watching "Going to Far" with its increased violence and sexual content, but then if you were easily offended you probably shouldn't be watching this series in the first place. Just sit back, enjoy and feel your sanity diminish with every episode you watch.
