Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Since exploding out of Sydney, Australia in 1973, AC/DC have been at the very forefront of heavy metal. Built around the central core of Glaswegian-born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, whose brutal dual guitar assaults almost immediately set the rock world aflame, the band's awesome live battery has since passed into legend. AC/DC's stock in trade, a simplistic and uncluttered blend of fundamental rock & roll riffs and deliciously amoral licentiousness, has gradually come to exemplify the metal ideal, and the blistering stage performances captured herein show exactly why. The precision holocaust of "Highway to Hell", blazing ferocity of "Let There Be Rock" and immense triumphalism of "For Those About To Rock" are visceral sonic power incarnate. As Angus slashes forth elemental chords and struts the stage in his trademark school uniform, Brian Johnson roars himself ragged and bellows the crowd into abject submission. Mayhem has never sounded more glorious. --Ian Fortnam

CD Description

AC/DC reclaimed its status as gutbucket rock n' rollers to be reckoned with on this searing double-disc live set. The year was 1992, more than 15 years after the group's first recording. By this point, the band was approaching middle age, a time when most rockers settle into the lazy comfort of their genres. From the opening guitar shards of "Thunderstruck", it is clear no such concessions have been made. The bass drum falls in, not so much a timekeeper as an underground detonation device, and the repeated cries of "thunder!" gain volume like an approaching army. The difference being that this is an army with one mission and one mission only: to knockthe lights out of anyone within earshot.
The album succeeds not only because the exuberant pounding the band gives to the familiar "Back in Black", "Highway to Hell", "Shoot toThrill" and "Who Made Who", but also because of the equal pulverising of older Bon Scott era numbers such as "Sin City"and "High Voltage". Vocalist Brian Johnson, in particular, injects some his best screeches in years.

5.0 out of 5 stars AC/DC at their best, 18 May 2005
By A Customer
The 30 odd years that AC/DC have been playing is testament to their obsession and success with hard music. Unlike many rock bands who explode onto the popular music scene and then quickly die out, AC/DC have been producing classic rock anthems for as long as they've been able. The problem with this is that there are no albums that sum up most of their greatest hits. With one exception; AC/DC Live contains a good percentage of the bands best songs, though unless you put all their songs into one album you won't find all their classics in one place. This album was the album which introduced me to rock so has always had extra special value to me. Since then i've been inspired to learn guitar and listen to other rock bands. So if your new to AC/DC or rock in general then this is the album for you. But even if you familier with them this is a good buy as the atmosphere of their concerts and the very essence of the band is captured brilliantly in this CD. You just have to close your eyes and you can see Angus picking furiously, at his SG as if he were possesed. They are all good songs but personal highlights include: Thunderstruck, Back in Black, Hells Bells, Whole Lotta Rosie, Highway to Hell and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Also if you like AC/DC you may well like bands like Guns n' Roses, Nirvana, Iron Maiden and Metallica.

5.0 out of 5 stars AC/DC Live! Atmospheric, intelligent rock music, 23 May 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: AC/DC Live (Audio CD)
This album has all the very best AC/DC tracks - not one of them is a loser and none are left out! AC/DC are a classic live rock band and Angus Young and Brian Johnson classic live musicians and this album truly reflects the excitement of the atmosphere during their 1990/91 live tour. The performances are true to the originals and the sound quality is excellent. Most people, even if they are unfamiliar with AC/DC generally, will be familiar with the classic choruses of the likes of "Highway to Hell", "Whole lotta Rosie" and "You shook me all night long" and will play these anthems over and over again. This is a classic among live albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shoot To Thrill, 22 May 2004

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This is the best, most complete and strongest live album AC/DC have ever put to disc. The band are on fire all the way through and it is imposible to pick a favourite track. Every single note that is played is a classic. Angus is one hell of a guitarist and is on blistering form here and Brian Johnston's vocal performance is top class aswell. Along with all the classics like Back In Black, Dirty Deeds, Whole Lotta Rosie and Let Their Be Rock, we also get gems like The Jack, Jailbreak and T.N.T. There are 23 tracks in all and if you are a fan and you don't already have this album, man, what are you waiting for! If you are new to AC/DC then this is a great place to start. It gives you an overview of their work, right back to the first album High Voltage. And every single track is as powerfull today as it ever was. For some reason it is considered 'uncool' to listen to AC/DC these days, but if you love rock music and you are listening to The Darkness or Amplifier, then go back to where it all began, and get down with the mighty AC/DC. The DVD concert Stiff Upper Lip also comes highly recommended.
