Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The armless and legless Rayman was always the most surreal video games character out there; Mario and his pals might be a peculiar bunch but the world that Rayman lives in makes the Mushroom Kingdom look like Slough. And as Rayman 3 begins our hero is rudely awoken to find out his hands have been stolen, which leaves him in the peculiar position of being just a pair of feet with a torso and head floating weirdly above them.

The errant body parts are quickly recovered, though, as you discover the evil André's plot to take control of the heart of the world, or something. Rayman 3 is at heart a fairly traditional platformer, albeit one with a stronger emphasis on combat, thanks to a well-implemented targeting system. The fact that Rayman's hairdo works like a helicopter allows you to avoid otherwise fatal falls relatively easily (a bit like Mario's backpack) and also ensures that the game is less frustrating than the norm.

The other main addition to the gameplay is five special costumes, which, for a short period of time, gives Rayman the use of a Ratchet & Clank-style swingshot or giant metal fists. Unoriginal it may be but thanks to the surreal graphics and atmosphere there's plenty here for everyone to enjoy, whether they liked the other Rayman games or not. --David Jenkins

5.0 out of 5 stars The ULTIMATE Platformer!!!!, 1 Jun 2003
By A Customer
Rayman 3 is the first PS2 game I have bought since the slightly disapointing Crash Bandicoot:The Wrath of Cortex and it is BRILLIANT!!!

Following on from the hugely sucessful Rayman 2 for the PS1, Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc exceeds all fans high expectations. Slick graphics, Exceptional gameplay and wonderful player/character interactions, this game can be enjoyed by any age group.

Move over, Crash, Ubisoft have done it again. Rayman 3 kicks butt!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best cartoonie game I've played for a while, 28 Sep 2003
This really is the best cartoonie platform game I've played for a long while. The graphics are bold, smooth and clear even on our 32" widescreen TV. Talking of which the game is optimised for widescreen and the sound is perfect through my dolby 5.1 system. The game play is good as the game teaches you how to play as you go along (saves you reading the instructions!). The bonus games are great too. As you play and gain points collecting crystals you unlock bonus (mini) games. They are quality mini games too like the older 2d version of rayman and games like tennis. You can play these mini games at any point and not lose where you are on the main game as it saves your progress on your memory card. The saves and loads are quick and hardly noticable. An alround great game something for everyone and you learn as you go along - so it obviously gets harder as you go - but this just keeps you interested and coming back for more. If you like platformer / puzzle type games this is for you and you wont be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hoodlum Havoc, 8 Mar 2003
By A Customer
After getting a translated import copy of this game, I noticed the characters and layout of the game had taken a dramatic change. Unlike the other Rayman games, the had a slightly arcade feel to it (eg. points gained for kills, points lost for being hit). Also, Globox's voice had changed completely. No longer did he sound slow and stupid, he sounded quite intelligent for a lump of blue pixels. Rayman himself now collected power-ups lasting for a few seconds, changing the properties of his fists so he could shoot rockets, etc. I noticed though that behind the games colourful graphics, the sound quality sounded different, slightly muffled somehow. But as this was an import, Ubisoft will probably tweak this for th English version. So overall this game get a respectable 4 stars, nigh on 5 if it wasn't for the technical problems. A must have if you're a fan of the platforming genre.
