A stunning rendition by Chumbawamba (the choice of band certainly surprised me!), a mainly lyricless soundtrack with the occasional relevent soundbite from the film (e.g. "I set my fate at nought, so that I have my vengeance"). Alex Cox's Revengers Tragedy is an emotionally stunning film, and this soundtrack did a lot to contribute towards that. The memorable main theme recurs in several tracks, a contemplative and powerful melody which strongly evokes the memory of events in the film. Yet even with this and other recurring motifs, the soundtrack is varied, always interesting and good for replaying. It has been said of the film that the soundtrack is so strong that it could, in places, be played in audio form alone and still be effective. This is certainly true, and until the release of the film on video and DVD, this soundtrack is a highly enjoyable substitute, and will continue to be so even when the film's available. Well worth buying.
