House and chill get thrown into the big melting pot, 2 Oct 2003
Ok, if you're coming into FC Kahuna on the back of Hayling expecting an album in a similar vein, you're going to be disappointed. FC Kahuna are one of the finest gritty dirty dirty house acts that you can find today. As a result, this is a house album! Where FC Kahuna's quality shows through is their ability to straddle genres at ease, being able to please indie heads and chillout heads in one fell swoop. House fans will find themselves right at home in the almost Daft Punk electronic disco of Glitterball, revel in the menacing bass of Growler and be simply extatic over the upcoming single, Nothing Is Wrong (for me, the #1 track here). Then there is the other side of FC Kahuna, the gentle chillout of Hayling, soothing trip hop beats and synths with softly sung vocals, indie heads might find their home in Fear Of Guitars or the electro-pop of Machine Says Yes.FC Kahuna have created something with their own unique vision. No-one has a sound like Kahuna, but this album shows that there is more to the world of Kahuna than gritty bleep house. Its a quality vision, also worth checking is their 'Another Fine Mess' mix they've done. Welcome to Kahuna. ps. you'll see two versions of this album available, one on electroclash label City Rockers, and the more recent addition on Fatboy's Skint label. There's no real difference to the tracks, the order has been shifted and the packaging re-done. The quality is still intact however! ;)

Big Kahuna Burger, 21 May 2003
I first saw Kahuna oooohhh at the end of 2002 supporting Royksopp (whose album I hope you all have!) , and again supporting Dirty Vegas in march this year. Their live act is fantastic, they always manage to get people bouncing all over the place, or nodding their heads in appreciation to the downbeat tracks.Anyway, this album reminds me a bit of Layo & bushwacka's Night Works. It has that same mixed bag vibe, it combines hard up, bass heavy, rockin' dance tracks, like Microcuts, and the smackhead tune Glitterball, with chillout excursions a la hayling, north pole transmission and fear of guitars. The rest are, well, kinda weird. No wait, make that experimental. The tracks may be weird but theyre a lot of fun, greeat to listen to and funky too. The album flows well between tracks, but my only problem is 'Growler' which is an OK track but it drags on for way toolong, and doesnt really do anything, which is a shame as its right in the middle of the album and holds it all up. Oh well, not even that can drag it down from 5 stars. Go buy if you like Dirty Vegas, Royksopp, and maybe even Underworld, the Chems etc.

This band will be huge, 14 Mar 2003
I saw FC Kuhuna supporting Dirty Vegas (another must have album) at The Astoria. I've never seen such a great support act. FCK are everything you like about Massive Attack, Portishead and Lamb, and their sound covers the whole spectrum between tender sweetness to rocking hard in a dance-based 'house' stylie. This album, for me, was a must have after the first 2 tracks. Do yourself a favour, let a little FCK into your life.
