3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not all Britpop tunes....., 13 Mar 2003
By S. EVANS (Cornwall U.K.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is not a bad 'Britpop' album, it has a good selection of those killer tunes from the mid 90's in there, like catchy pop 'Parklife' by Blur (all the people.. so many people....!) and real top rock tunes 'Riverboat Song' by Ocean Colour Scene. They really capture the excitement of those of years. So if you're after an average nostalgia cd its great!!

The only down side to this album is some of the other content which seems to have been stuck on just to fill up the numbers. For example 'Angels' by Robbie Williams (1997- when Britpop was over) and way too many dance tunes! And also a few tracks that were barely in the same decade; 'The Only One I know' and 'Loaded' are late 80's/early 90's! The time period for Britpop seems to have blurred slightly it seems! And another thing- Why has this album missing so many great Oasis and Blur and other classic tunes? (Wonderwall a great example, probably THE Britpop anthem!) People who buy this are missing out on some great tunes!
An average collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just a compilation, 15 Mar 2004
By S. Ray (Tunbridge Wells, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In reply to those arguing that this album is not the definition of Britpop or misses major era defining tracks, although I agree to some extent, this is not the sole purpose of this album. It is actually the soundtrack to the documentary of the same name (which I fully recommend for anyone whose love for music was jolted into life by the tide of British bands in the mid nineties), and therefore the track list corresponds to the songs used in the film.

2.0 out of 5 stars If Robbie Williams is Britpop I'm Les Dennis, 30 Mar 2003
Not particularly hapy with this album as it seems to be a snap-shot of the charts on a certain day in 1996. It would've been nice to see some of the slightly more obscure bands, seeing as anyone who liked Britpop would own about 70% of this album already. So just where are Menswe@r?

1.0 out of 5 stars Unwelcome reminder of a creatively-starved time
This collection illustrates what a lie "Britpop" was, and shows the musical poverty and sheer lack of creativity of most bands of the time. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars A confused collection
It's hard not to criticise the wordy review from Jason Parkes from Worcester. You can't describe Britpop as a 'vague genre' and then condemn the compilers for a 'lazy... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars yeah but...
While it's fair to quibble at some of the inclusions, the term 'Britpop' means 'British popular music' so why aren't the Kinks, the Stones et al included? Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Britpop- where the 90s began to go wrong...
The 1990s had been a fairly interesting decade- bands such as Ultramarine, Primal Scream & even stadium types U2 were making eclectic music from a wide array of influences. Read more
